Bird Box (2018) - 3/5 - It's a monster based horror movie the NEVER shows the actual monsters. It starts great, turns into a maternity drama and gets slower as it goes on. The acting, casting and direction are great but it's a drama; not a horror movie.

The Ritual (2017) - 3/5 - A very good and semi-original horror movie. What works well is the mythos of the monster. It's not typical and perfectly executed. The special effects are also incredibly well done. The dialogue, directing and acting are great.

The Nun (2018) - 2/5 - A spin off of The Conjuring with a bad story, bad special effects and zero scares. The three leads do a very good job with what they're given but they can only do so much. It's a basic and boring horror movie and nothing else.

Venom (2018) - 3/5 - Once again proving movie critics are pretentious assholes. 35 from critics, 6.3 from users. 7.0 on IMDB. Great, fun action packed movie. Tom Hardy is excellent and commits completely. Venom is very funny. Can't wait for Venom 2.

The Predator (2018) - 2/5 - I like Shane Black's writing but this is as bad as they say. 20 percent of the dialogue is great, the other 80 percent is written by a 12 year old boy. Mediocre CG and action. Lackluster direction. Too many quirky characters.

The Chaser (2008) - 3/5 - I like the Pimp, ex-detective, lead's acting and internal conflict. The antagonist is suitably menacing and charming at the same time. The final victim kill however left me torn. It's very upsetting. Good but difficult to watch.

Memories of Murder (2003) - 3/5 - I'm not sure why it's so highly rated on IMDB. It's good being that it's based on a true story but it's no Zodiac. The transition of the two leads into the others policing style is cool but not enough. It's decent enough.

A Hard Day (2014) - 3/5 - A very good Korean crime movie. Not particularly unique but there are some interesting twists and a great final fight scene. The lead is fun to watch but the main antagonist isn't that menacing. A fun movie if you like the genre.

The Equalizer 2 (2018) - 3/5 - A good but not great sequel. Not as balanced in its many violent threads. The story is very good but doesn't have the same weight as the first. Antoine always does a great job directing a Denzel movie. Fun but forgettable.

The Meg (2018) - 2/5 - A bog-standard creature feature with cringe worthy dialogue and forgettable casting. It's Jaws for Chinese audiences and millennials just not nearly as good. I didn't hate it but I have zero interest in ever watching it again.

BuyBust (2018) - 2/5 - It's The Raid set in a Manila shanty town. The direction overall is average but the fight scenes are very poor in execution and filming. Anne Curtis is good and the single shot at the end is well done but there is better available.

Sorry to Bother You (2018) - 4/5 - Talk about an off-the-rails adventure. This is one weirdly awesome movie. The 'white voice' conceit is hilarious. The entire cast is great, especially Stanfield. It's social and economic satire at it's best. See it now.

Skyscraper (2018) - 3/5 - Purely a Dwayne Johnson vehicle. The direction is very good but the action sequences are absurd. The Rock is awesome but everyone else is forgettable. Turn your brain off and it isn't unwatchable just don't expect very much.

Hold the Dark (2018) - 3/5 - The only Jeremy Saulnier movie he didn't also write is his weakest so far. The direction is great as always but the pacing is too slow and ending anticlimactic. It's not bad, it's just not what audiences have come to expect.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) - 3/5 - A great Star Wars heist movie with excellent action set pieces and fun story. Top notch direction from Ron Howard. Glover is charismatic. The Han and Chewie buddy dynamic is great. Should have been a hit blockbuster.

Mandy (2018) - 3/5 - I love it when a director has a vision and sticks to it come hell or high water. This is the most stylish movie I've seen in a decade. It's also too long with very slow sections. However, Cage is excellent and the story is interesting.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) - 2/5 - The first half is contrived just to go back to and subsequently blow up the island. The second half is a simple 1950's creature feature in a spooky mansion. Leads are just contractually collecting paychecks.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) - 3/5 - Good but not great direction with a story that felt like a 2018 take on The Professional. It lost all the tension and charm and uniqueness that made the first movie great. Benicio Del Toro is awesome though.

Hereditary (2018) - 4/5 - There is so much craziness I had to watch it twice to catch it all. It's a fairly complicated and deep story with excellent acting and direction. The last act explains everything and is incredible. Toni Collette is awesome.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - 4/5 - I was shocked by how well the story equally distributed screen time to so many characters. If not for the really slow Gamora section in the middle it would be perfect. Everything about it is absolutely top notch.

Never Let Me Go (2010) - 3/5 - A romantic drama with a sci-fi twist. The three leads are all excellent as is the dialogue and direction. The logic however is incredibly farfetched. Humans are humans and the ethics to justify the premise is ridiculous.

Westworld (1973) - 3/5 - Probably revolutionary at the time but it hasn't aged well. It's a fun campy movie that turns very dark in the third act. Yul Brynner is excellent and the pacing is quick with a short run time. Overall it's a pretty darn good.

Upgrade (2018) - 3/5 - The first fight scene is one of the best, and funniest, I've seen in years. It's a good movie with quality direction and a decent reveal at the end. I wish it had the stuff to gain a cult status though. So close but still good.

American Animals (2018) - 3/5 - The best aspect of this based on a true story movie is the integration of the actual persons. The heist itself is fine but the real life individuals adds a nice layer of depth. Ann Dowd and Evan Peters are great.

The Secret of Marrowbone (2017) - 3/5 - Anya Taylor-Joy is a pleasure to watch as always. The direction is great with beautiful shots and nice production values. The pacing however is too slow and the story is unfocused. Cutting 10 minutes would help.

Radius (2017) - 2/5 - I don't think I've seen such uninteresting actors in a very long time. Not just miscast but literally boring. Zero chemistry with bland line delivery. The story is actually pretty good but the direction is as flat as the actors.

Revenge (2017) - 3/5 - Yet another revenge tale. The story is been there done that. Really, the best thing about the movie is the direction. If the direction were sub-par then it would be unwatchable. Good casting and with some decent gore but kind of meh.

Tag (2018) - 2/5 - A story looking for a movie. Not nearly as good as Game Night. The characters, dialogue and action all feel forced and not the least bit natural. The casting is very good but almost everything else about it is pedestrian at best.

First Reformed (2017) - 1/5 - Pretentious. Pious. One of the most asinine endings I've seen in awhile. The direction is great however. Every shot is perfectly framed. Ethan Hawke also gives an outstanding performance. A preachy shit movie though.

Grave of the Fireflies (1988) - 1/5 - It is both absurdly saccharine and incredibly depressing. Four, yes four, separate adults basically let two children starve to death; including a physician and a police officer. If this is realistic then what the fuck.

Ready Player One (2018) - 4/5 - The book is better but the changes made for the movie make the story feel like an alternate telling. Stunning CG and action sequences complement likable characters. Spielberg is still a great director after all these years.

The Legend of Drunken Master (1994) - 3/5 - Vintage Jackie Chan with lots of physical comedy and great action sequences. The 2nd act unfortunately has some incredibly awkward melodrama. There is an amazing final action section to wrap it up though.

Super Troopers 2 (2018) - 3/5 - The opening is really off-putting but the rest of the movie is great. Most of the jokes are funny and the story is simple but effective. The Canadian characters add a lot of depth and creativity to it as well. Very funny.

Memoir of a Murderer (2017) - 4/5 - As good as anything coming out of the US. Dexter meets Memento in another great Korean crime thriller. Excellent acting by the leads with great direction and an interesting well thought out story. Up there with the best.

The Square (2017) - 1/5 - As pretentious and absurd as the contemporary art in its narrative. Unnecessarily long with needless random characters and situations. Even the ending is abrupt and completely pointless. The direction is well done however.

Only the Brave (2017) - 4/5 - The single best Based On A True story movie I've ever seen.

Game Night (2018) - 3/5 - A comedic version of The Game so the story is somewhat unoriginal. However, there is a ton of excellent comedic dialogue and one liners. Excellent chemistry from all actors. Good direction and pacing with a satisfying ending.

Blockers (2018) - 1/5 - Entirely built on cliches. Drugs check. Alcohol check. Sex check. Over-protective parents check. Dorky date check. Teens finding themselves check. LGBT check. Drinking game check. Not funny check. Horrible movie with bad jokes.

Early Man (2018) - 2/5 - Very much for kids 8 and younger. There is little to no reason for adults to see this. The story has been done many times before and there are very few original moments. It is not Pixar and it will not appeal to all ages.

Lion (2016) - 3/5 - True story movies are typically very one note and boring. Lion is no exception. The upside is that it is beautifully shot and well acted. There just isn't much meat for a two hour run time. Sunny Pawar, in his first movie, is amazing.

Personal Shopper (2016) - 3/5 - The only reason the watch this is because it may be Kristen Stewart's best performance to date. The story itself is slow, fairly tedious and with a very day in the life style. Not really crime or supernatural. It's average.

Wolf Warrior 2 (2017) - 2/5 - How did this make $870 million? I get that Jing Wu is the Chinese Rambo but bad acting, low production values and extreme nationalism make for a big budget flop. Wu and Jade are fun to watch though and have good chemistry.

Death Wish (2018) - 3/5 - I'm not an Eli Roth fan so I fully expected this to suck. It doesn't. The direction is actually very good. The story is compelling with quick pacing and good performances. Yet again, paid movie critics are completely wrong.

Thoroughbreds (2017) - 3/5 - An excellent drama with two perfect performances by Cooke and Taylor-Joy. The direction and framing of shots is the real standout. It's amazing a first time director is better than people who have been directing for decades.

Isle of Dogs (2018) - 3/5 - Another quirky Wes Anderson movie that is incredibly well made and beautiful to watch. Good pacing and an interesting story based on family friendly content make for an enjoyable experience. Better than most of his movies.

Black Panther (2018) - 4/5 - Some of the strongest character development I've seen in the MCU and where the story is better and more important than the action sequences and special effects. Outstanding direction and just a great superhero movie overall.

The Endless (2017) - 3/5 - When you're the writers, directors, actors and editors there is no one to tell you where you went wrong. It's 15 too long. Your acting is merely OK. Some of the SFX are beginner at best. The story and direction is really good.

Tomb Raider (2018) - 3/5 - The direction and cinematography are excellent. The story has quick pacing and good action set pieces. The casting is spot on with likable actors. I fully expected to hate this but was pleasantly surprised. It's a fun movie.

Rampage (2018) - 2/5 - One of the most contrived narratives I've ever seen. The CG and green screen work is sub par at best. The George CG and animation is great though. The casting is hit and miss with bad dialogue. Not a very good Dwayne Johnson vehicle.

A Quiet Place (2018) - 3/5 - This movie has sooo many logic errors. Put the batteries in your pocket. Don't get pregnant. Move to the river or waterfall. Corn isn't like quicksand. It also has great direction, acting and pacing. So it's both good and bad.

Unsane (2018) - 3/5 - Claire Foy is excellent and does a great American accent. The first and second act are suspenseful and then it goes off the rails. The finale has enormous logic errors and is pretty bad. Enjoy it for the iPhone gimmick and move on.

Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) - 3/5 - All sizzle no steak. Scrappy teens save the day. Chinese movie audience pandering.The direction and CG action is great but it doesn't have the weight or character of the first. It's watchable at best.

A Wrinkle in Time (2018) - 2/5 - It's as bad as they say. Bad script, bad acting, bad casting, bad song selection, average special effects and good but not great direction. Levi Miller is unwatchable. It is actually boring in a number of spots.

Cargo (2017) - 3/5 - A small but very well made zombie movie. The pacing is slow and the cast few but the story is interesting with a great ending. It's more of a drama much like The Walking Dead only in Australia. Martin Freeman is great as the lead.

Action Jackson (1988) - 2/5 - I really wanted to like this like Commando or Red Heat but the very good direction is let down by a bad script. The jokes don't work. The one liners and comedic beat cops don't work. Vanity is actually distracting. So close.

Red Sparrow (2018) - 3/5 - A great movie with an excellent script, based on a great book, and very good acting. The direction and locations make it feel bigger than it is. It really is much better than critics give it credit for. I hope they make more.

The Post (2017) - 3/5 - It's good but not Spielberg's best work. There are a number of suspect camera shots. The pacing is slow and uneventful with sections that feel long. The acting is great however. Overall it's just not nearly as good as Spotlight.

Manhunt (2017) - 2/5 - John Woo is still a great director after all these years but this movie has so many problems it just doesn't matter. Bad acting, script, pacing and too much unnecessary English dialogue. The few actions sequences can't save it.

Entourage (2015) - 1/5 - It literally adds nothing to the series. It's 1h45m of absurd cameos and inane plot lines. No laughs. No cool twists referencing the series. It's just one last hurrah of the mutual masturbation society. Completely pointless.

Roxanne Roxanne (2017) - 3/5 - I bought Roxanne Shante's Greatest Hits 20 odd years ago just for Roxanne's Revenge. This is a great biopic with excellent acting and some great cameos. It's depressing though depicting her struggle at such a young age.

You Were Never Really Here (2017) - 4/5 - Lynne Ramsay is an absolutely amazing director. This film is beautiful which actually increases the impact of the dark subject matter. Joaquin Phoenix also does an excellent job. It was difficult to follow though.

In the Fade (2017) - 3/5 - I watched this solely for Diane Kruger. She's great in everything she does but is still dependent on everything coming together. It's a courtroom drama with each act well defined. Really though, it's average. Nothing special.

The Death of Stalin (2017) - 3/5 - Armando Iannucci is an outstanding comedic writer but I just didn't laugh very much. Maybe it's the subject matter. Maybe it's the pacing. Not sure. I like it very much but it's almost not a comedy. It's just too dark.

Hostiles (2017) - 3/5 - This is one seriously depressing movie. The darkness starts right away and never lets up. All actors do a great job and the picturesque views add lots to the story. It feels like a modern day Shakespeare tragedy. Still great though.

Den of Thieves (2018) - 3/5 - A great heist movie with a clever twist. The writing and situations are realistic. The direction is great with good pacing. Much better than critics would have you believe. The Gerard Butler family issues detract though.

It's absolutely amazing how all the top Twitch streamers are able to get in to Hearthstone during a rush but all us regular fucks have a wait 15 minutes notification. Fucking amazing.

The Shape of Water (2017) - 3/5 - Absolutely amazing production design and the creature costume for Doug Jones is flawless. The direction is great and the love story is uhh ...unique. Best director, sure; best picture, maybe not. It is really good though.

Small Town Crime (2017) - 3/5 - A great little indie crime movie with known talented actors. The satisfying story and its violent conclusion is brought to life by great direction and a compelling performance by John Hawkes. I really enjoyed it; a nice gem.

The Florida Project (2017) - 1/5 - Much like the "movie" Kids, another look at the dregs of society. No story whatsoever. Ad-libbed dialogue. Critics looking at a white dove in a snow storm and calling it groundbreaking art. A fucking waste of time.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) - 4/5 - Awesome. As good as Empire Strikes Back. Coherent, original, well-told story. A number of holy crap moments. Great character interactions. Excellent direction and visuals with many set piece scenes. Great movie.

Mom and Dad (2017) - 3/5 - Much better than I expected and what the reviews would have one believe. The direction is outstanding. The story is quick and well acted. It's a fun frantic movie with Nicolas Cage doing what he does best; acting crazy.

The Villainess (2017) - 2/5 - The beginning and ending action scenes and camera work are absolutely amazing. The middle however is boring and tedious. It's too melodramatic and the plot is overly convoluted. With a better script it could have been great.

I, Tonya (2017) - 3/5 - Multiple excellent performances with Margot Robbie doing an particularly amazing job. It's a fascinating look at one of the craziest sports stories in recent memory. Great soundtrack. Should have had the No Comment t-shirt though.

The Disaster Artist (2017) - 3/5 - James Franco does an amazing job channeling Tommy Wiseau in this biopic about The Room. Read the wiki page first though to know what is going on. With the background info it's much better.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) - 3/5 - If you chop off the beginning and end student sections then the movie is great. Really funny with good action and great actor chemistry. It's really good but not $930 million good. That's just crazy.

Coco (2017) - 3/5 - It starts cliched and full of stereotypes but then it really picks up. Everything in the Afterlife is great with lots of color and action and humor. I love the focus on the importance of family. Another very satisfying Pixar movie.

Annihilation (2018) - 3/5 - I'll give it one thing; it really stays with you afterwards. Great performances by everyone. Great world design and set pieces. The final act is wholly unique and interesting. The opening song really sucks. The pace is slow.

Justice League (2017) - 2/5 - Most of the dialogue is eye-rollingly cringe worthy. Steppenwolf sucks as a villain. The CG and FX are sub par and look like every other Zack Snyder movie. Ezra Miller as The Flash is great though and the only up note. Pass.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) - 3/5 - A great movie with multiple Oscar winning performance. But man alive is it a downer. Jokes are sprinkled throughout but the tone is very dark and very depressing. Great for a one time watch.

Thor: Ragnarok (2017) - 5/5 - Laugh out loud hilarious. Excellent and exciting action sequences. Great character chemistry. Cate Blanchett is awesome. Top notch direction and acting. Currently the best Marvel movie to date. An all around awesome time.

I was also being generous in terms of counting content because an interview with Chloe Kim and a medal ceremony for Jamie Anderson as part of the "content" which isn't actual event time.

I timed from 8:30 to 9:00 the amount of ad time during the Olympics and it was 12:52. That's the worst ads to content ratio I've ever seen. Supernatural is almost always 40 min per hour this would be 34 min. Fuck Comcast! Greedy Cocksuskers.

I absolutely LOVE the Olympics but there are SOOOOOO many fucking commercials. I might have to stop wactching like I did with the NFL and NBA because they showed too many ads. Seriously, fuck commercials.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) - 3/5 - It's just really fun. Everything about it is upbeat and exciting and kinetic. Great character interactions and dialogue. Holland and Keaton are perfect. Crazy action scenes with great direction. An excellent movie.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) - 2/5 - Great direction and original score let down by stilted dialogue and a ridiculous plot. What worked for The Lobster fails here. Based on Iphigenia, the modern version fails on multiple counts. Truly absurd.

Gantz: O (2016) - 3/5 - Excellent CG with exciting action sequences. Always appreciated jiggly boobs. Hard to understand if you know nothing about the manga. Unfortunately, uncanny valley humans look weird. Bad and unrealistic dialogue even for anime.

Wolf Warrior (2015) - 2/5 - Very propaganda based. The entire movie feels like a Chinese military recruitment piece. Showcase big machines, cyber tech, super brave soldiers, etc. Jing Wu is very charismatic though and the direction is great. CG wolves; no.

Kung Fu Jungle - 3/5 - The direction and action are both great. Due to the story every fight is unique. Donnie Yen is in top form and fun to watch. The story is very good if not that original. It really does have a great look and feel; very Hollywood.

Yes, Madam! (1985) - 3/5 - The final fight scene is awesome but overall not enough action. Yeoh and Rothrock are great but there isn't enough of them. The Tsui Hark fight is a true highlight. The story is messy with too many characters. Fun if flawed.

One False Move (1992) - 2/5 - I have no idea what the critics are raving about. A simple story with mediocre direction and average acting. Slow pacing with little to no action or suspense. And an anti-climactic ending to boot. Below average at best.

Naked Lunch (1991) - 1/5 - Drug addicts like Burroughs and Thompson mistakenly think their drug induced hallucinations are interesting; they're not. Pretentious non-nonsensical shit pawned-off as entertainment. Avoid wasting 2 hours of your life.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) - 3/5 - Excellent direction, story and acting. Quick pacing and a number of unexpected plot twists always keep it interesting. However, the ending has really bad plot contrivances breaking the realistic tone.

Irreversible (2002) - 2/5 - The reverse narrative is clever and well implemented. The direction and segment transitions are great. The brutal rape however ruins the whole endeavor. It's excessive and doesn't further the story. Overall very pretentious.

Being John Malkovich (1999) - 4/5 - An incredible movie with amazing performances. A crazy story brought to life via great dialogue, direction and effects. You literally won't see another movie like it. Eternal Sunshine is better but very different.

War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) - 3/5 - Absolutely incredible and highly realistic CG. A great story with a fun prison breakout section and interesting characters. Excellent direction and pacing. A prefect wrap-up to the Apes movie trilogy.

Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) - 1/5 - I know it was filmed in 1972 but fuck this movie for the way it treats animals. Not only that, it's slow and boring with next to no story. It tries to be grand and philosophical and it fails miserably.

Wild Target (2010) - 2/5 - It tries SOOO hard to be funny and charming and clever; it's not. It is awkward though. It has a really good ending but it takes a lot of effort to get there. The script just doesn't work. Bad jokes with no actor chemistry.

Sunshine Cleaning (2008) - 3/5 - A simple drama with excellent performances by Amy Adams and Emily Blunt. The relationships feel natural and warm. It's charming and funny and caring. I'm not big on dramas but this one really sticks with you afterwards.

Thursday (1998) - 3/5 - The rare movie where an excellent screenplay is held back by the crew. It should have been directed by Tony Scott or the like. Direction is very good but lighting and production design both suck. Very creative and unique story.

The Guard (2011) - 3/5 - A fairly typical buddy cop movie with a great performance by Brendan Gleeson. A watch simply to see him be a smart ass giving Don Cheadle a hard time. Fast pace, good direction and a good but simple story make it fun.

Red Rock West (1993) - 2/5 - An absurd number of plot contrivances and logic errors. The leads are great but the story is just plain ridiculous. No character actions make any sense whatsoever. Watch literally any other suspense thriller instead.

Dunkirk (2017) - 4/5 - At first it seems kind of simple and even a little boring but it has a perfect ramp to the end. The multiple story lines mesh together well and the direction is of course excellent. The realism is amazing and very convincing.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017) - 4/5 - A logical and interesting story brought to the screen via excellent direction and a-list special effects. The pacing is slow and deliberate but that allows more time to have it wash over you for 2h 45m. An instant classic.

The Handmaiden (2016) - 3/5 - It seems like it may be a boring historical drama but it's actually crazy as hell. There are a ton of machinations and plot twists by the three leads and the acting and direction are great. Much better than I had expected.

Lincoln (2012) - 4/5 - One of the best biographical dramas I've seen in a very long time. Daniel Day-Lewis gives an amazing performance and the direction by Steven Spielberg is perfect. Even the politics of getting the 13th Amendment passed is thrilling.

Boyhood (2014) - 2/5 - It's a gimmick. It's a 10 year 2h45m home movie. Everything about it is routine and common with a mediocre narrative. It's interesting to see the kids grow up but after that you realize nothing really happens. It's just average.

Whiplash (2014) - 4/5 - An excellent music drama with J.K. Simmons rightly earning an Oscar. It's Full Metal Jacket's R. Lee Emery meets college band practice. The love subplot was unnecessary though. A great twist at the end wraps up an incredible movie.

Shame (2011) - 2/5 - Steve McQueen is an excellent director but Shame is boring and routine. As a window into sex addiction it's fairly benign. As a drama there is no compelling narrative. The acting is limited by the mundane script. Hunger is better.

Room (2015) - 3/5 - Not since Haley Joel Osment has a child actor been so captivating. Jacob Tremblay IS the movie. It only works because he is so convincing. The story is great and Brie Larson rightly earns an Oscar. It slows once at home but still good.

Elle (2016) - 3/5 - The French are known for their unique take on cinema and Elle is no exception. This movie is SOOOOO weird. It's all over the map. I can't say I liked it but it was certainly interesting. The French are super OK with anything sex though.

50/50 (2011) - 3/5 - A funny well written comedy drama from Seth Rogen. All of the major characters a cast really well. The cancer focus swings the tone a little too serious in some parts but it is based on a real life situation so it should be expected.

Top Five (2014) - 2/5 - Shockingly NOT funny. The only, and I mean singular, funny scene is at the family's apartment. That's it. Must be why that section was used in the trailer and TV ads. A very big disappointment coming from Chris Rock.

The Skeleton Twins (2014) - 2/5 - Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader are outstanding but the story is slow and uninteresting. There are a few laugh out loud moments but the majority of it is depressing or cliched. It is well made with good direction though.

The Walk (2015) - 2/5 - I could never get used to JGL's sudo French accent; it was distracting. The virtual backgrounds also stood out like sore thumbs. I did like the caper planning section. It just felt over-worked instead of a realistic aesthetic.

The Infiltrator (2016) - 3/5 - Better than American Made. The visuals are sharper and Bryan Cranston is still as awesome as ever. It's less flashy and more intelligent with more interesting characters. It's just a step above other similar movies.

Leaving Las Vegas (1995) - 3/5 - Nicolas Cage absolutely deserved the Oscar for his performance. It's amazing. The story of two damaged people finding each other and finding love is hopeful and touching even if their lives a hard and depressing. Great.

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) - 2/5 - Very boring. It's basically just about a dysfunctional family and that's it. Through in enough quirky characters and Wes Anderson's direction style and somehow it magically transforms into a classic. Not good at all.

The Imitation Game (2014) - 4/5 - A great historical biographical drama. An incredible tale about a pivotal aspect of WWII involving code breaking. The acting, direction, music, story, pacing and casting are all great. Highly recommended.

12 Years a Slave (2013) - 5/5 - There is literally nothing bad about this movie. The acting, direction, story, music, casting and everything else is perfect. Parts are very difficult to watch but are filmed so perfectly you can't turn away. Exceptional.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - 3/5 - It's a very fast paced, fun and quirky movie that has an interesting story and great direction. But if you're not a Wes Anderson fan it may be a little off-putting. I liked it but it's not really my cup of tea.

Frank (2014) - 2/5 - The first half is quirky and fun and crazy but then it gets awkward and uncomfortable and slow. I want to recommend it but I really disliked the second half so much that I just can't do it.

Moonlight (2016) - 5/5 - An absolutely exceptional film made with respect and love.

Hidden Figures (2016) - 3/5 - A great movie about the contributions and accomplishments of some truly remarkable women at NASA. It did feel very focus group tested though like an overproduced studio album. It's depressing though in certain aspects.

Fences (2016) - 4/5 - Plays usually don't translate well to the big screen but this is the best character study I've seen in the last decade. The acting is great and the pacing good given the amount of dialogue. Viola Davis made me cry. She's awesome.

Mudbound (2017) - 4/5 - An excellent movie that is also incredibly depressing. Direction, acting, music, story and production are all prefect. It does have a slow pace though but it's a drama. But man is it a downer. Luckily the ending is on an up note.

Detroit (2017) - Part 2 - The acting is uniformly excellent. The production design is spot on and looks great. The story is doubly compelling since it's based on a true story and in light of current racial events. A good movie that could have been great.

Detroit (2017) - 3/5 - It's really good but has a number of problems. The direction is bad. The camera is ALL over the place and there are a ton of closeups. The Algiers is like racist porn and goes on way too long. The beginning feels like a documentary.

Paradox (2017) - 3/5 - The 3rd SPL has some great fight choreography and a decent story. It's just not nearly as good as SPL 2 Kill Zone. There are no standout characters and the plot is very basic. There are also a number of slow sections. Decent though.

The Beguiled (2017) - 3/5 - Excellent direction with a great story. Colin Farrell does a great job portraying the charming polite sweet talking hunk and then the abusive controlling threatening asshole. The women's reactions to both are great.

What Happened to Monday (2017) - 3/5 - Noomi Rapace does an excellent job playing all the parts. The story, direction and twists are all good. It did feel kind of low budget though with limited effects and locations. A good movie with limited expectations.

A Ghost Story (2017) - 2/5 - Quite possibly the slowest movie I've ever seen. Every scene is a still shot with maybe a pan here and there. Next to no dialogue. No scares. It does have great direction though. Not unwatchable but not very good either.

Allied (2016) - 3/5 - I pictured a war movie but it's more of an excellent drama. The leads have chemistry. The story is unique and compelling. The direction is great with some nice action scenes. A very enjoyable movie about love and trust during wartime.

The Big Sick (2017) - 4/5 - Great movie! A perfect mix of smiles and cries. The comedic portions are truly funny and the dramatic scenes made me cry more than once. It got rave reviews but I was still surprised how awesome it was. Heartfelt and sincere.

Sweet Virginia (2017) - 3/5 - Jon Bernthal is great as always. The direction and visuals are prefect. I especially liked the musical score. The plot however is very thin and lacks any significant weight or content. There just isn't much to it as a story.

Better Watch Out (2016) - 2/5 - It could have been great except for one glaring issue; Levi Miller utterly fails as the lead. Direction, script, music are all very good. I especially like the twist; unique and awesome. But it never works due to Miller.

Happy Death Day (2017) - 3/5 - A horror movie in the day repeats itself genre. Jessica Rothe is great but her and the male lead have 0 chemistry. The death montage with music section is bad. Nice but predictable twist ending. Great emotion with dad scene.

American Made (2017) - 3/5 - Doug Liman nails the 80's aesthetic. Like most based on a true story movies it's interesting but not necessarily captivating. The pacing is good and acting is all around top notch. Enjoyed it but I wouldn't watch it twice.

Gerald's Game (2017) - 3/5 - Not a typical horror movie. It's more of a suspense thriller with a strong emotional component. Excellent acting by Carla Gugino. Everything else is also very good. The ending is somewhat anticlimactic and drawn out.

Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017) - 3/5 - Zahler is a very talented director and story teller but his movies always have serious pacing issues. The decent into hell is plausible and the ending is satisfying. Vince Vaughn is great and very charismatic.

The Foreigner (2017) - 3/5 - It's based on a novel so the story convincing and interesting. The direction and fight scenes are very good. The acting is great; especially Jackie Chan as the mourning father. Finally, after a long time, a great JC movie.

Bright (2017) - 3/5 - Not nearly as bad as movie critics would have you think. Basically it's Training Day with Fantasy elements. That's it. The acting, story and directing are all very good. The limited effects are nice. It just isn't original at all.

Cars 3 (2017) - 3/5 - Absolutely amazing visuals especially the racing sequences. The story, direction and emotional moments are all well done. Cristela Alonzo as Cruz is the real standout performance and I liked the unexpected and satisfying ending.

Mayhem (2017) - 3/5 - A low budget but fun action movie with numerous comedic elements. Steven Yeun and Samara Weaving have good chemistry. The direction is adequate and pacing solid but the story is unoriginal and ending anticlimactic. Not unwatchable.

Mother! (2017) - 1/5 - A pretentious art-house movie with everything and the kitchen sink from religious allegory to political statements and feminist ideology. Parts are also nonsensical or uncomfortable. A waste of time for most audiences.

Tag (2015) - 2/5 - A limited effects budget and nonsensical story with maybe the worst ending to a movie I've ever seen make Tag difficult to recommend. If not for the three beautiful lead actresses it would be unwatchable. It just isn't very good.

Blade of the Immortal (2017) - 3/5 - Trim fifteen minutes and keep the awesome final battle and it would have been a four out of five. The charismatic lead and excellent sword fighting places it above similar movies. 13 Assassins is better though.

Annabelle: Creation (2017) - 3/5 - Not the least bit original with tons of horror tropes but still very well done. The direction is great with good pacing and decent scares. It's a fun little horror movie if you like the genre and have time to kill.

Patti Cake$ (2017) - 3/5 - Not original in the least but still very well done. The direction is great and the rap lyrics, which could have sucked, sound professional. The pacing is a little slow but the acting is good with Danielle Macdonald a standout.

American Assassin (2017) - 2/5 - It has all the requisite components for a hit action movie but nothing ever hits. Every ingredient box is checked but the final dish is bland and boring. There is nothing bad about it; it's just completely forgettable.

It (2017) - 4/5 - An excellent Stephen King based horror movie. The story and characters keep you interested and the horror aspects make it exciting and awesome. Bill Skarsgård is amazing as Pennywise. I didn't like the built in sequel ending though.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) - 3/5 - It's a fun movie with the same look and feel of the first but it's missing the something special that made the first so great. It reminded me of The Matrix movies. The first is awesome but the follow-ups are meh.

Molly Brazy = Ghetto Trash...Oh and her "music" is shit too.

Logan Lucky (2017) - 3/5 - A fun hillbilly Ocean's Eleven. I say that mainly due to it being a heist movie by Steven Soderbergh. The actors were great and the pacing quick. You do need to leave you brain at the door though. Very implausible but fun.

Marjorie Prime (2017) - 3/5 - It's on the slow side but that's more due to it's origins as a stage play that any real story issues. The acting is good but it's not a scifi movie. If Her was about virtual love then this is about virtual loss and grief.

The Little Hours (2017) - 3/5 - It feels like a group of friends in the business got together to shot something for fun. Ad-libbed dialogue and a simple story make for easy viewing but there aren't tons of laughs. I still enjoyed it though.

Good Time (2017) - 3/5 - The Safdie brothers are basically channeling Tony Scott for great direction. Excellent acting and an even better tecnho soundtrack by Daniel Lopatin. The story is simple but has some nice twists to throw the viewer. Great movie.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) - 2/5 - Dane DeHaan is horribly miscast. Rihanna can't act. The story is good but not great. The world building and CG are awesome. This could have been an amazing movie but there are too many missteps.

Manifesto (2015) - 2/5 - Not a movie at all. Simply a series of vignettes strung together with Cate Blanchett doing an incredible job as always. Each section is a different art movement manifesto that could have just as easily been read about on Wikipedia.

Duck Soup (1933) - 2/5 - Not even the slightest bit funny. Many of the jokes are obvious based on puns, turn of phrase or slapstick. The story is decent, direction good and pacing quick however. It's not unwatchable but 80 plus years haven't been kind.

The Babysitter (2017) - 3/5 - Very pleasantly surprised. A great script with quick pacing and good direction from McG. Numerous funny one liners and some crazy death scenes brought to life by a great cast. It's not original but it's still quite good.

1922 (2017) - 3/5 - Great story, based on a Stephen King novella, and great direction and acting to boot. But man alive is it dark. There is no upside warmth or fun in this movie. It's actually quite depressing. Karma is definitely a bitch as this shows.

Killing Gunther (2017) - 2/5 - Comedy can be hard. When jokes don't land then there really in no point. I chuckled a few times and I liked the ensemble cast but it's just not very good. Also, the documentary style setup wasn't convincing at all.

The Dark Tower (2017) - 2/5 - If you turn your brain off and know nothing about the book series then it's an average movie. If you love the books then you're going to be very angry. It is very superficial with average CG and direction. A real shame.

Wind River (2017) - 3/5 - Another excellent Taylor Sheridan story. It's a tough movie to watch though. Intense and convincing emotional scenes of loss punctuated by realistic violence. It's dark, realistic and visceral. The ending is very satisfying.

Atomic Blonde (2017) - 3/5 - Charlize Theron is officially a bad-ass. She's the primary reason to watch this movie. The story is good, the direction is really good but the fight sequences are great. Last fight scene and clever ending put it over the top.

Hunger (2008) - 4/5 - A fairly simple story told in an incredible way. Oscar worthy directing and acting from McQueen and Fassbender respectively. It's realistic to the point of disturbing. I love the 15 minute single shot for the priest visit. Amazing.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017) - 2/5 - Mainly targeted to kids it doesn't have the depth of a Pixar or Disney movie. It looks good and is fun but I can't recommend it for general audiences. It's merely average for an animated movie.

Black Christmas (1974) - 4/5 - The epitome of the slasher genre. No gore, no nudity and still great. A logical story with great direction and acting. The ending is unique and quite ballsy. It's not cheesy or cheap which is why it's a classic. Watch now.

Violent Cop (1989) - 3/5 - An excellent, somewhat cliched yet also unpredictable crime movie. The last 10 minutes are insane. Takeshi Kitano is great as lead actor and director. The pacing is on the slow side but not too bad. Disturbingly violent at times.

The Night of the Hunter (1955) - 2/5 - Robert Mitchum is excellent and the direction by Charles Laughton is top notch. But, the story has really strange pacing, the dialogue is awkward and the ending nonsensical. If the story was better it could be great.

Judge Dredd (1995) - 3/5 - I re-watched this and really enjoyed it. It's visuals adhere more closely to the source material. The direction is very good and Stallone and Lane are both fun to watch. It's campy as hell but still a quick fun ride.

Silence (2016) - 2/5 - Another beautifully crafted movie by Martin Scorsese. It is however too long, too slow and very boring.The subject matter will find a very limited audience and the story, while excellent, isn't very compelling for a movie.

Pineapple Express (2008) - 3/5 - It's a simple and common crime buddy caper movie with an added stoner veneer. The adlibbed dialogue is funny and the actors are fun to watch. Good pacing and direction mean you won't be bored. Drug users will love it.

A Fish Called Wanda (1988) - 2/5 - As a crime movie it's slightly clever and as a comedy I chuckled a few times. Generally speaking though it's just not very good. The stuttering killer feels like a separate TV sketch and Kline's character is an ass. Pass.

Wonder Woman (2017) - 3/5 - Finally a WB DC movie that doesn't suck. Some of the CG actors in the action scenes aren't convincing but everything else is great. Story, direction, music, pacing, emotional moments. It really is a very good comic book movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) - 3/5 - Not as good as the first but still fun. Some of the jokes feel forced and the 2nd act is slow and a little boring. The touching moments work minus the playing catch scene. It's good but missing the fresh feel.

'71 (2014) - 4/5 - It could have been a simple behind enemy lines story but it's much more. Great everything. Acting, directing, story, 70's look, twists, characters, pacing. I can't think of anything bad about this movie. I even learned a little history.

A Most Wanted Man (2014) - 3/5 - A slow burn spy movie focusing on the intricacies of an operation. Great acting and direction keep you interested. The ending is good but anti-climactic. It's similar to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in tone and pacing.

Goon: Last of the Enforcers (2017) - 3/5 - While not as good as the first I still enjoyed it. The on ice visuals are great and I laughed a number of times. It was a little slow and the tone a fairly dark but if you liked the first this is a good sequel.

Cop Car (2015) - 3/5 - The two child actors are the stars but everyone else also does a very good job. The story, while simple, is good and never gets boring. The direction is also nice with lots of beautifully framed shots. A good little movie.

Baby Driver (2017) - Also... The words from the song written on buildings in the intro annoying. The convenient 2 red sedans in the 1st getaway annoying. Debora going along with all this craziness annoying. Seriously the whole movie is annoying.

Despicable Me 3 (2017) - 3/5 - Watchable but it is just very meh. I like the focus on family, which is DM's thing, but it doesn't feel epic enough. I also really like the bad guy and his 80's vibe. Fun but overall it is just too simple in story and scope.

Baby Driver (2017) - 2/5 - I found this entire movie very annoying. Ansel Elgort annoying. Most of the music annoying. Cliched romance annoying. Kevin Spacey dyed hair annoying. Unrealistic bad guy that never dies annoying. Some good action scenes though.

The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) - 3/5 - It's a fairly standard Hollywood buddy action movie set in Europe. Good direction, action scenes and actor chemistry make it fun to watch. It's not at all original but it will scratch an itch. A good 2 hour time waster

Baywatch (2017) - 1/5 - Nigh unwatchable. Not funny. Bad green screen effects. Unnecessary F bombs which become distracting. It only gets a 1 due to the hot actors. 21 Jump street was a fluke. Baywatch, CHIPS, Dukes of Hazzard and the like just suck.

It Comes at Night (2017) - 3/5 - One of the best directed suspense movies I've seen in a decade. The problem is that there is no IT and no payoff. It's a very simple movie with slow pacing but great acting. I enjoyed it but it's really kind of a let down.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) - 2/5 - The entire movie has a been there done that feel. Brenton Thwaites has zero movie charisma. None of the action scenes feels fresh or new. It's just another Johnny Depp paycheck movie.

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) - 2/5 - The entire concept of Merlin and King Arthur is eye rollingly ridiculous. The CG and action in the final 20 minutes is great but still not worth it. Also, there are 3 different AR and it's distracting as hell.

Holy shit The Orville is bad. It's an unfunny and unoriginal Seth MacFarlane vanity project. Every aspect of the show is that of a poor man's Star Trek knock-off. It is cringe inducing and painful to watch and I couldn't wait for the episode to be over.

Secretary (2002) - 3/5 - A simple love story but told with the twist of one person being a sadist and the other a masochist. Is it good? Maybe, maybe not. The ending is nice but the journey is fairly conventional once you understand what's going on.

Dangal (2016) - 3/5 - Yet another excellent sports movie about overcoming personal and societal obstacles. Great direction and acting make the viewer part of the journey. There are also a number of fun songs for the various montages. Highly recommended.

T2 Trainspotting (2017) - 3/5 - Long delays between movies usually mean failure. T2 however is great. The integrated flashbacks from the first movie fit perfectly and the character's stories are believable and touching. Danny Boyle is a great director.

Okja (2017) - 3/5 - There is humor throughout but it is fairly dark and depressing movie. Okja's plight actually made me sad and the social commentary, while completely accurate, is almost too spot on. It's worth watching but it's not what you think.

Your Name (2016) - 3/5 - It's a predictable teen comedy until the half way point then it gets really interesting really quick. I enjoyed the characters, story, humor and animation. The ending however was too drawn out and it looses its impact as a result.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) - 3/5 - Critics panned it but I actually liked it quite a lot. It's a good re-imagining of a classic tale. Many fun characters with really good CG action scenes. There is some cheesy Guy Ritchie dialogue though.

The Mummy (2017) - 2/5 - There is just so much wrong with this movie. Bad casting. Stilted dialogue and acting. Unlikable characters except for Jake Johnson. Everything outside of the beginning is visually dark and hard to see. Sub par CG and effects. Bad.

Shot Caller (2017) - 3/5 - Wow. Everything works. The realism, acting, direction, story, dialogue, music; everything. Everyone is convincing as hardened criminals. The twist and non-happy ending fit the tone perfectly. Even the family parts fit great.

Headshot (2016) - 3/5 - Amazing action sequences supported by a completely viable although unoriginal story. It looks and feels similar to The Raid 2 but with different directors. At 2 hours it's a little long. 10 to 15 minutes of edits would be a plus.

The Croods (2013) - 3/5 - I really wanted and fully expected this to suck. It kind of does in that I dislike the character designs and dialogue. But the visuals are amazing and the action fast and kinetic. The ending is also great and was what one me over.

Attack the Block (2011) - 3/5 - A fun British scifi alien invasion movie with humor and great characters. The aliens are unique and convincing. Great pacing and direction keep it interesting throughout. John Boyega and Jodie Whittaker are great to watch.

Alien: Covenant (2017) - 3/5 - Basically a remake of the original Alien movie with a story and CG upgrade. Much better than the incoherent mess that was Prometheus. Waterston and Fassbender give great performances. The ending is visually beautiful.

Ghost in the Shell (2017). It is literally just a RoboCop remake. Major is Murphy. Cutter is Dick Jones. Spider tank is ED 209. Runaway into cyborg is cop into cyborg. Take out head bad guy in the end; Hanka and OCP. An unoriginal and pathetic imitation.

The Lost City of Z (2016) - 3/5 - A beautifully shot and wonderfully acted film that ultimately is just about some guy that is really determined to find a city in the middle of the jungle. There just isn't that much to the movie. Still worth the watch.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) - 1/5 - If you love the anime version this is virtually unwatchable. All they had to do was make a live action version with the exact same story and dialogue. It'd be a 4 out of 5. Also, everything is gray AF. Everything.

Wait Until Dark (1967) - 3/5 - The ridiculous Rube Goldberg plot and extreme over-acting don't completely sink it due to a wonderful Alan Arkin bad guy role and a great ending. If the screenplay were better it'd be a classic. Glad I watched it though.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014) - 2/5 - The single most boring horror movie I've ever seen. Literally nothing happens; nothing. Which is a shame because the direction is great and the actors are all charismatic. It needed a much better story.

Ghost World (2001) - 3/5 - The opening song from the Indian movie is great and sets a perfect tone. Birch and Johansson have nice chemistry as friends and the dialogue is great. It however is too long and the ending sucks big time. Seriously a WTF ending.

Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) - 3/5 - While I'm not a Spencer Tracy fan he does a very good job and the short run time make for a simple but enjoyable movie. Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine are great as henchmen. Robert Ryan is a good adversary. Nice movie.

Hellraiser (1987) - 2/5 - A boring soap opera horror movie by an over-rated director that has somehow achieved cult status. Eye-rolling bad dialogue and a simple story make for a tedious watch. The gore effects are decent and the Cenobites are pretty cool.

Vampire Cleanup Department (2017) - 3/5 - Charming with great lighting, direction and quick pacing. It has a strong Hollywood look and feel including the opening credits and musical score. The story is very simple but I don't think I'm the target market.

The Way of the Dragon (1972) - 2/5 - Numerous blurry shots. Simple one dimensional story and dialogue. Poor quality fights scenes except for the end fight. Slow pacing and bad audio recording; not a dub but the main sound. Just not very good at all.

I was literally saying this exact same thing the day Otto Warmbier died. Of ALL the countries on Earth, if someone chooses to go to North Korea and they get arrested or die they have only themselves to blame. Visit South Korea or Japan or anywhere else!

Anyone who holds their cell phone vertically while shooting video is a fucking idiot.

Les Misérables (2012) - 3/5 - An exceptional first half and a very boring and slow second half. Great opening songs and pacing lead into boring French Revolution and love story. If you don't cry during the Oscar winning Anne Hathaway song you have no soul.

La La Land (2016) - 3/5 - A fine musical with many odes to Hollywood of the past. The drama is very good but the music is forgettable. Nice chemistry between the leads with a disappointing ending. I liked it but it isn't a classic. Grease is better.

The Fate of the Furious (2017) - 3/5 - Amazing action scenes with lots of one liners for laughs. Everyone does a great job but the super hacker plot and techno babble is tired and played out. It's a good entry just not as great as Fast and Furious 7.

I'm only a few hundred pages into the book Snow Crash but the main character's name is currently the worst I've ever encountered. Hiro Protagonist...SERIOUSLY! I'm sure Neal Stephenson was very pleased with himself when he came up with that one.

Bridge of Spies (2015) - 3/5 - It's 2h 22m long but it never gets boring. Great acting, direction and pacing make an interesting historical subject a captivating movie. Tom Hanks is great as usual and Steven Spielberg hits on all marks. A great movie.

The Founder (2016) - 3/5 - A historic telling of one of the most well known restaurants in the world. How McDonald's came into being and became as big as it has is fascinating. After Birdman, Michael Keaton has definitely found his second wind in acting.

All the Way (2016) - 3/5 - An amazing look at Lyndon Johnson during a tumultuous time in America. Bryan Cranston, as well as everyone else, does an incredible job portraying well known individuals. A great look behind the scenes of politics.

Berlin Syndrome (2017) - 2/5 - Beautiful direction and great acting by Teresa Palmer can't help a thin plot with lots of filler. It's like 45 minutes worth of content was stretched over 2 hours. It's not that it's slow, there's just nothing going on.

Life (2017) - 3/5 - It's a shame when great directing, acting and special effects are undermined by common sense and logic errors. There are soooo many stupid decisions made that it continually takes the viewer out of the experience. Great ending though.

The Iron Giant (1999) - 4/5 - Considered a classic by everyone who loves animated features. A Brad Bird project which we already know is a great creative talent. A wonderful story with great voice acting and animation. It doesn't get much better than this.

Telling Lies in America (1997) - 3/5 - It's a semi-autobiographical story from Joe Eszterhas of Basic Instinct fame. I like the story, characters, acting and direction. It's a nice little movie that you'll remember years later.

Colossal (2016) - 2/5 - A very boring movie about emotionally stunted individuals with alcohol abuse issues. The clever Kaiju aspect is little used and completely irrelevant to the story. It really isn't much of a movie with no reasons to watch.

The Man in the Moon (1991) - 3/5 - A very good movie that starts very saccharin but then the twist comes and the tone completely changes. The overly sweet beginning is important for later character impact. Reese Witherspoon is amazing in her debut.

Kids (1995) - 1/5 - Very boring with no story. It's basically following a group of ghetto trash as they smoke, drink and whore away their time. It's realistic only in that the dregs of society actually exist and shouldn't be given the time of day.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) - 4/5 - New best action movie. Excellent direction with stunning production design. Pacing that makes 2 hours feel like 30 minutes. Great story with incredible fight sequences. Great casting especially the bad guy. Top notch.

The Lobster (2015) - 3/5 - An excellent movie with many WTF moments. Great acting especially by Collin Farrell. The dialogue, story , and direction are all great. Never a boring moment. I really like the specific speech patterns and the music.

Just listened to the new Kool G Rap album Return Of The Don and it sucks ass. I tell you what...MoSS is certainly no Marley Marl. The one song It's a Demo is better than the entire new album.

Mean Streets (1973) - 2/5 - Don't listen to the Scorsese fanboys. It's another very boring and very slow "day in the life" movie. There's no over-arching story and no three act structure. The dialogue and acting are pretty good but it's still a pass.

Logan (2017) - 3/5 - I enjoyed it but it's not as awesome as everyone wants it to be. The violence and swearing are fully appropriate for Wolverine. Dafne Keen makes one hell of a debut. The action scenes are great but the pacing is very slow.

Raw (2016) - 1/5 - Literally the least scary horror movie I've ever seen. The pacing is slow and the shock scenes aren't shocking at all. The story is muddied and not clever. The ending reveal is very anti-climactic. Movie critics really are retarded.

Blame! (2017) - 2/5 - There is WAY too much exposition and not enough action. The battles all look the same with a slightly better finale. The characters all look the same too. Maybe it's better as a manga but the movie version is merely average at best.

Free Fire (2016) - 3/5 - A very interesting crime story with a well known cast. There is lots of clever dialogue and comedic elements but it's not funny enough and the shooting gets old quick. Sam Riley and Sharlto Copley are great.

There actually is one really good pulp culture reference in The Boss Baby. At the 57:15 minute mark it uses one of the best shots from Mad Max Fury Road. But that's literally the only memorable thing in the whole movie.

The LEGO Batman Movie (2017) - 3/5 - It gets a 3 for the Fox Force Five and Gymkata references alone. The story is good but the loner narcissist plot gets annoying. That said, the animation is amazing with excellent lighting and action sequences.

The Boss Baby (2017) - 2/5 - Very very Meh. The animation is good, especially character expressions, but the story is so boring it doesn't matter what you're watching. There are many more animated movies that are funnier and more entertaining.

Get Out (2017) - 3/5 - A great modern horror movie with outstanding direction and surprising humor. The multiple reveals are spaced out perfectly and get better each time. The story is original and creative. The ending with Rod's comment is awesome.

Hunter's Prayer (2017) - 2/5 - Jonathan Mostow is a very good director but this movie doesn't show it. The story is simple and derivative. There's no substantial depth to the characters. It feels more like a made for TV movie than anything else.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017) - 3/5 - The direction is good but the story isn't. The cameo is very cool but Toni Collette is no Samuel L Jackson. It's not a very good movie but I still enjoyed it. It just tries way too hard to be cool.

Brewster's Millions (1985) - 3/5 - I'm sure childhood nostalgia makes me like it more than I should but I really like this movie. It has a fun vibe with many great scenes and quality direction by Walter Hill, a great 80's director. Richard Pryor rocks.

Frankenstein (1931) - 4/5 - An incredible classic in every sense of the word. The castle design would be right at home in a Tim Burton movie. The direction is great with numerous memorable shots. Colin Clive is captivating as Dr. Frankenstein. See it.

American Sniper (2014) - 3/5 - An amazing story of dedication to military service and the toll it takes on individuals. Great direction by Eastwood and acting by Cooper and Miller. The ending is also note perfect; subtle and powerful. Great movie.

Starred Up (2013) - 3/5 - The British drop the C word like Americans drop F bombs. It's really is a bit much on the swearing. But it feels very realistic and visceral. It's not like any other criminal style movie you'll see. Definitely not for everyone.

Patriots Day (2016) - 2/5 - It was always going to be made but not every real life event is movie interesting. Slow pacing, it's 20 minutes too long, and average visuals make for a bland experience. It just doesn't work as a movie night treat.

Homefront (2013) - 3/5 - Lots of top talent involved in a very good, albeit cliched, action movie. The father daughter relationship is convincing. The baddies do a great job being bad. Direction is also visually pleasing and effective. Not bad at all.

The Void (2016) - 2/5 - A mishmash of many other movies. Prince of Darkness, Phantasm, From Beyond, etc. I actually liked the direction and look a lot. The acting is good but not great. It's just that the whole premise is completely unoriginal.

Stratton (2017) - 3/5 - It's basically James Bond lite. Simon West of Con Air fame is still a good director but his talents are undermined by a simplistic story and script. Dominic Cooper is fun to watch as always but most others are forgettable. Rent it.

Puss in Boots (2011) - 3/5 - The story is much more complex and detailed than I expected. The direction, especially the action sequences, is really great. The CG is somewhat lacking but still decent. I wouldn't watch it twice but I enjoyed it once.

Sing (2016) - 3/5 - Based on the ad nauseam commercials I fully expected this to suck. Luckily it is actually pretty great. Stereotypical roles and pop music throughout only slightly diminishes a nice story and fun characters. Visual quality is also great.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) - 3/5 - An excellent horror mystery. The reveal is very good but the ending is even better as a direct result. Some cliched jump scares don't diminish great performances and quick pacing. Cox and Hirsch have great chemistry.

Black Sea (2014) - 3/5 - A very good submarine movie with tense action and great visuals. Jude Law carries the movie but Ben Mendelsohn steals every scene he's in as usual. It's not Das Boot but if you like sub movies it is definitely worth a watch.

The Science of Sleep (2006) - 3/5 - Indescribable. I guess it's a love story but it is so atypical and surreal it's like no other romantic movie ever. It's beautiful and captivating dream imagery holds your attention. A great movie with endearing actors.

I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore (2017) - 3/5 - Macon Blair's directorial debut is great and has a similar vibe to Blue Ruin. It seems boring at first but the third act is crazy. Stay past the slow start and you're rewarded for your patience.

Man on a Ledge (2012) - 3/5 - Surprisingly better than expected. A well told story with good direction and acting. Some nice twists and comedic moments add to the charm. All of the casting is perfect. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed.

Underworld: Blood Wars (2016) - 3/5 - It's a bad movie with bad CG werewolves. Here's the thing. I like all the main actors. It also has a short run time of 82 minutes minus credits. The direction is also pretty good. So yeah, it sucks but I still like it.

Miss Sloane (2016) - 3/5 - An excellent and intense drama about political lobbying with an even better performance by Jessica Chastain. Not as good as The Ides of March but still a well written nicely paced movie with a great ending.

Split (2016) - 3/5 - Another great Shyamalan movie makes two in a row. I think that's the third sign of the Apocalypse. James McAvoy gives a truly stunning performance and Anya Taylor-Joy is equal to the task. Great pacing, direction and story all around.

Assassin's Creed (2016) - 2/5 - A technically well directed and acted movie with great visuals is severely hamstrung by an inane video game story filled with techno mumbo jumbo dialogue. It also has 15 minutes of end credits. 15 MINUTES! WTF! Ridiculous.

Cutter's Way (1981) - 2/5 - I was hoping it would be a great but underappreciated crime thriller. It wasn't. It's a slow character study about people who are miserable with how their lives have turned out. The plot is thin and suspense non-existent. Pass.

The Deer Hunter (1978) - 2/5 - A very slow, very boring movie with rote direction and bad sound undermines truly excellent performances by De Niro and Walken. Its biggest failing is scenes that are too long and add nothing. Easily 45 minutes too long.

Rogue One (2016) - 4/5 - Shockingly great. Gareth Edwards' two previous movies sucked but he hit a home run here. Great story with an excellent ensemble cast. The third act is stunning with awesome visuals and action. Maybe even better than Force Awakens.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) - 2/5 - The worst directing and editing I've ever seen. The action sequences are all but unwatchable. The plot is razor thin. The CG is always shrouded in darkness to hide how bad it is. Not unwatchable but still.

The Great Wall (2016) - 3/5 - I really enjoyed it. Good balance of East and West. Quick pacing, great visuals and direction with fun action scenes. The metaphor of the evils of Greed works well. Bad dialogue is clunky and limits caring about characters.

If ever there was a perfect example of a movie critic who should retire for being old it's Rex Reed. The number of his RED scores to Metacritic GREEN scores is obscene. He's the epitome of the old man yelling GET OFF MY LAWN! Or maybe he's just an asshole.

Her (2013) - 3/5 - A seemingly implausible plot becomes completely logical through realistic characterizations and dialogue. Sentient AI helps the main character find himself by learning about love and loss in the bigger picture. A great movie.

Hacksaw Ridge (2016) - 4/5 - An absolutely amazing story of heroism. If not for being a true story it would be considered unbelievable. Outstanding direction by Gibson and acting by Garfield merit Oscar nods. My second favorite war after Black Hawk Down.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) - 3/5 - Unimaginative creatures and an unoriginal story are offset by excellent period aesthetic and fun characters. The best part of the movie are the touching moments in the last fifteen minutes. Average.

This LITERALLY contradicts everything Republicans say about states rights. The voters have spoken in these states but Republicans are basically saying fuck that.

Doctor Strange (2016) - 3/5 - What makes it work is that it is taken seriously. It could have been campy with mystical mumbo jumbo but instead the actors, director and writers treat the subject with respect and authenticity. The final battle is also cool.

Moana (2016) - 4/5 - Another excellent Disney Pixar movie. Great characters, animation, music, story and direction. The CG islands and ocean are amazing. Good pacing and touching moments keep your attention. I really can't think of anything I didn't like.

About Time (2013) - 3/5 - One of the most unique time travel movies I've watched in a long time. It stats off very strong but then changes tone and speed afterward. It's a little long but the relationships are compelling and highly enjoyable to watch.

Bleed for This (2016) - 3/5 - The best boxing movies are the ones that aren't about boxing. An incredible story of overcoming adversity and never giving up. The best parts involved Miles Teller and his interactions with everyone else. Great movie.

Birdman (2014) - 3/5 - Broadway movies bore the crap out of me. That said, Birdman is an amazing technical achievement. The acting and banter is quick and engrossing. The story is unique and execution perfect. All signs of an exceptional production.

Ender's Game (2013) - 3/5 - I had heard it wasn't very good but I liked it quite a bit. The overall aesthetic is clean and detailed. The story, based on a novel, is quite good. The acting is fairly weak and the second act drags but I would watch it again.

Manchester by the Sea (2016) - 2/5 - Slice of life movies are ultimately very boring. Regardless of how well it's directed or acted, there is no compelling narrative and no real reason to watch. It's just like following regular people around and that's it.

Night at the Museum 3 (2014) - 3/5 - I really enjoyed it. I was chuckling throughout. The CG, story and pacing all worked well. The varied cast of characters make for interesting dynamics. The cameo at the end was awesome! You can do a lot worse than this.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) - 3/5 - The actors and direction are great. The 60's aesthetic is convincing. The story is well plotted and suspenseful. Post should have added film grain and desaturated it by 20%. Like Oculus, another very good horror movie.

Nocturnal Animals (2016) - 2/5 - Not much of a movie. The book is Edwards pain from Susan's betrayal early in life. The book parts just fill screen time and are uncomfortable. The acting is fine but nothing special. It was OK but wouldn't recommend it.

Arrival (2016) - 4/5 - An excellent and emotional drama with aliens being the thematic driver. The short story is exceptional and the Hollywood version holds up very well. Great direction, solid measured pacing and great special effects make for a winner.

Passengers (2016) - 3/5 - A simple plot and limited cast is offset by two great lead actors. There isn't much to the movie but it's still enjoyable with some decent action sequences towards then end. I liked it but I wouldn't watch it twice.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016) - 2/5 - Mediocre direction, an annoying bad attitude teen, unrealistic reactions by lead and no chemistry between Cruise and Smulders. The complete opposite of the great first Jack Reacher movie.

War Dogs (2016) - 3/5 - A well made based on true story movie with some crazy situations and a great performance by Jonah Hill. The song selection is awesome throughout and fits the setting. More interesting than most true life movies.

Deepwater Horizon (2016) - 3/5 - Currently, the best 'Based on True Events' movie I have ever seen. Peter Berg is excellent at this type of directing. It's fast paced, informative, entertaining and has humor to boot. Seriously, a great movie.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) - 3/5 - 1st half: Stilted acting, slow pacing and boring. 2nd half: Much better acting, lots of action and numerous story revelations. Also, really bad American accents from Butterfield and O'Dowd.

Why the fuck is there a 30 minute server wait time for Diablo 3? It's a single player game. I'm literally playing a solo character by myself. What the fuck am I waiting for Blizzard?

The Wailing (2016) - 2/5 - Much too long at 2 1/2 hours. The ending, while sort of explaining things, is still too ambiguous and unfulfilling. It came off as a Korean version of The Exorcist. Not a bad movie but it could have been so much better.

The Girl with All the Gifts (2016) - 3/5 - Maybe the book is great but the movie has slow pacing, not enough action and an anticlimactic ending. However, it's well made and well acted with a good story. Sennia Nanua is great and the reason to watch.

The Accountant (2016) - 3/5 - The pacing is slow but the direction, story and acting are all good. The twist,it's not even a REAL twist, is telegraphed from a mile away. It doesn't know if it wants to be an action movie or a drama. Good but not great.

The Magnificent Seven (2016) - 3/5 - I enjoyed it because all the basics are present. Good pacing, quality story (Seven Samurai), chemistry between actors, humor via Chris Pratt, great direction and action. It's not mind blowing but still a good watch.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) - 3/5 - A charming story brought to life with great acting and directing. Humor is plentiful and lighthearted. Julian Dennison is charismatic and does a great job. A wonderful movie which I highly recommend.

Sully (2016) - 3/5 - A great looking well paced movie. Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood both do their jobs expertly. The timeline is broken up to make it less linear and more interesting. The wife part is unnecessary and overly melodramatic. Still good though.

Storks (2016) - 2/5 - Quite possibly the least funny animated movie I have ever seen. The animation is great. The voice acting is also really good. Unfortunately the story isn't compelling and jokes never land. Watch a Pixar movie instead, any Pixar movie.

Swiss Army Man (2016) - 3/5 - I was initially very bored and the fart humor didn't help. Then it changes tone. Radcliffe becomes animated and much more craziness ensues. The forest bus scenes are beautifully directed. The conclusion is very satisfying.

The Quiet Earth (1985) - 2/5 - It's a fine science fiction movie I guess. Kind of slow but it gets better as it goes on. It doesn't seem to warrant the praise it recieves though. Alternate reality movies are fine if they are convincing; this wasn't.

Spectral (2016) - 3/5 - A very high quality production by Netflix. The story isn't as creative as ARQ but the special effects and general look are incredible. Perfectly integrated CG and lots of action keep the viewer glued. The reveal is just OK though.

In a Valley of Violence (2016) - 3/5 - 1st Half: An average western in every way. Flat dialogue. Rote direction. No action. 2nd Half: Much better writing leads to better acting. More action. More creative camera shots. Jeff Grace creates a great score.

Hell or High Water - 3/5 - (2016) Another great script from Sicario writer Taylor Sheridan. The relationships feel authentic and the leads have great on screen chemistry. Sheridan creates a level of realism which draws the viewer in to the story.

Star Trek Beyond (2016) - 3/5 - Incredible action sequences, great direction and a compelling script make for the best Star Trek yet from the reboot. Justin Lin and Simon Pegg make a great science fiction movie with broader appeal than just for Trekkies.

Shin Godzilla (2016) - 3/5 - Infinitely more interesting and better executed than the crap that was 2014's Godzilla. It adheres more closely to the 1954 original with the same music and sound effects which is awesome. An excellent current version.

South Park Seasons 19 and 20 were both shit due to the season long story arcs. What made SP great was the relevant timely satire per episode on current hot button issues. A 10 episode arc is boring and unimaginative. I guess the era is over.

Goodreads.com used to be a good site to see if a book was wroth reading. Allowing users to embed animated gifs in their reviews has made it unusable. Holy shit people are fucking idiots.

Train to Busan (2016) - 4/5 - An excellent Korean zombie movie. Top notch zombie carnage and action in the first two acts with believable and touching drama in the final act. A wonderful cinematic surprise that I hope others get a chance to see.

Pete's Dragon (2016) - 2/5 - There are great kids movies that appeal to all ages but this isn't one. The pacing is slow. The music is strangely very annoying. But the actors, directing and CG are great. It just isn't "fun" in the way one would expect.

Suicide Squad (2016) - 3/5 - There was some significant re-toolling to make it more palatable and it doesn't really work. It should have been R like Deadpool. Margot Robbie is awesome but everyone else is tame. I enjoyed it but it could have been better.

The Secret Life of Pets (2016) - 2/5 - Although there is quality animation and voice acting the story leaves a lot to be desired. Some characters grate, there is no emotional connection and most of the jokes aren't funny. It's a very meh animated movie.

Finding Dory (2016) - 4/5 - An excellent and logical sequel to Finding Nemo. Great animation and humor as always. The strong emphasis on family really hits home without being melodramatic. Great new characters also bring a lot to the story.

Don't Breathe (2016) - 3/5 - A simple suspense thriller set in a single, for the most part, location. A burglary might sound like a thin plot but great pacing and good twists make for a really good movie. Acting, lighting and direction are all top notch.

Terminal Velocity (1994) - 3/5 - It's not as good as I remember but it's actually a pretty good movie nonetheless. The skydiving scenes are great and the direction and story are good as well. A basic but good action mystery that scratches an itch.

Sausage Party (2016) - 3/5 - An excellent satire on religion. The voice acting is great especially Nick Kroll; I can't stop saying Bro now. For a 20 million budget even the animation is top notch. An great adult animated movie even if the ending is WTF.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) - 4/5 - One of my favorite movies. Exceptional direction. Awesome non-CG practical effects. Great story and musical score. Gary Oldman is awesome. The only problem is the slow 2nd act but it sets up a great final showdown.

Highlander (1986) - 2/5 - I can see why it has a strong cult following but in reality it's not a very good movie. Horrible sword fighting and a nonsensical story overshadow a great performance by Clancy Brown. And yes, Lambert has one hell of a stare.

Flesh+Blood (1985) - 2/5 - Paul Verhoeven's first "Hollywood" movie really shows his directing talents. Ultimately though, the story is slow and boring with little action and questionable character motivations.

The Shallows (2016) - 3/5 - Blake Lively can't act. At least that was what I thought. This one movie changed my opinion of her. A realistic survival movie with an action movie ending. Great direction and visuals. I give Lively props for giving it her all.

Central Intelligence (2016) - 3/5 - I'm not a Kevin Hart fan but him and Dwayne Johnson have chemistry. The story is good, the action is exciting and most of the humor works. It's too long mostly due to Hart's need for extended comedic set pieces.

Blind Fury (1989) - 2/5 - I watched it for the nostalgia but in the end it's not a good movie at all. The humor falls flat, the action is poorly executed and the story is highly contrived. I like Rutger Hauer but he can only do so much.

The Purge: Election Year (2016) - 3/5 - This franchise could easily be milked dry with low quality sequels. Instead, great direction and a coherent story make for an enjoyable action movie. Everyone takes it seriously which makes for a quality production.

Ghostbusters (2016) - 2/5 - Not as funny as I had hoped given the immense creative talent in front of and behind the camera. The cameos were nice but didn't add anything. And oh yeah...fuck Pringles, fuck Papa Johns and fuck product placement.

ARQ (2016) - 3/5 - A fast paced well written time loop scifi movie. Each loop reveals cool new twists to the mystery. The acting from the two leads is great. The music is also a highlight selling the techno feel. The direction and story are outstanding.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) - 3/5 - The Quicksilver scene and surprise extended cameo make it worth watching. The direction, story and action sequences make it a great superhero action movie. It could be a little shorter but that's not a deal breaker.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) - 2/5 - Even less funny than the first. There are a couple of funny sections of dialogue and that's it. This comedy is instantly forgettable.

Neighbors (2014) - 2/5 - There are a number of funny moments but the overall tone is too cynical for my tastes. There also doesn't seem to be any real chemistry between the leads. I wanted to like it but afterwards I really don't care about it at all.

Blood Father (2016) - 3/5 - Everything comes together very well to make an enjoyable movie. The leads are interesting anti-heroes that you don't really cheer for but hope they succeed. The pacing is fast and the direction great. Pleasantly surprised.

Eye in the Sky (2015) - 4/5 - Finally an intelligent military movie which accurately depicts the moral complexities of modern warfare. A slow burn leads to a realistic conclusion that treats the audience with respect. All war movies should be this good.

The Conjuring 2 (2016) - 4/5 - An excellent horror movie. The story is intelligent and compelling. Direction by James Wan is exceptional with a number of noticeably great creative shots. Madison Wolfe will win an Oscar one day; yes she's that good.

The Legend of Tarzan (2016) - 3/5 - A good story with average direction and hideous CG action sequences. Whichever SFX company did the action CG got the job because they had the lowest bid. All in all though it was watchable but forgettable.

I haven't watched Marvel's Luke Cage yet but the fact that all the episode titles are named after songs and albums from Gang Starr make it already awesome.

It's 40K images of the same fucking thing. School, gym, doctor, park, learning, exercise, laughing, family, friends, office workers, sports and on and on and on. Fucking boring as hell! I would never use any of these shit images for anything, ever.

From an artistic process perspective there is literally nothing LESS helpful than speed painting, sculpting, drawing videos. These videos are basically just people showing off in rapid time lapse.

Jason Bourne (2016) - 2/5 - A blatant money grab. Ridiculous techno babble and a boring chase early on. Nothing clever or cool with the story. Vikander is badly miscast. Much like Pirates 4, this movie never needed to exist. Worst Bourne in the series.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016) - 3/5 - I keep expecting the new TMNT movies to suck and then they don't. Great CG and directing. Quick pacing and a pretty good story. Another pleasant surprise. The airplane action scene is awesome.

Dolemite (1975) - 2/5 - I'd like to give it a higher score just for camp value but I can't. It's watchable but isn't crazy enough for cult status. A great modern version is Black Dynamite which is a parody of this film.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016) - 3/5 - Hilarious. A great satire on the celebrity pop music industry. The Seal wolf attack scene had me laughing my ass off. Lots of funny dialogue and clever scenes overcome a somewhat cliched story and ending.

Warcraft: The Beginning (2016) - 2/5 - All sizzle no steak visual effects. Forced ineffectual dramatic elements. Too many unnecessary plot threads. Female Orcs are never hot...ever. Every single role horribly miscast. Good final battle though.

The Jungle Book (2016) - 3/5 - Jaw dropping visual effects, both animal and environmental, and top notch directing combine for a great movie. Neel Sethi does a fine job but too much weight is placed on his solo live performance to carry the movie.

The Nice Guys (2016) - 3/5 - Great dialogue, direction and acting elevate an average PI who done it. Angourie Rice steals every scene she's in and has great chemistry with Gosling. The final pay off though doesn't have the power to make it memorable.

Keanu (2016) - 2/5 - Not nearly as funny as I would have expected from watching Key And Peele's show. The Anna Faris George Michael scene is too long and boring. The gangsta dialogue gets old fast. The kitten is cute as hell though. Good kitty bad movie.

The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) - 2/5 - A weak Hollywood Godzilla knock-off with none of the ethical questions about nuclear war. A simplistic creature feature with no staying power.

Mannequin (1987) - 2/5 - Shoulder pads, musical montages, a bumbling security guard and evil competitor. All the required parts for this 80's comedy are present. I can't really recommend it but Kim Cattrall is worth a viewing since she's incredibly hot.

Joysticks (1983) - 2/5 - As cheesy as an 80's comedy gets with cliched characters, nudity and a competition to determine the fate of the arcade / school / resort etc. It's bad but I still enjoyed myself because it stays true to its vision; and boobies.

Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects (1989) - 2/5 - A boring yet still offensive plot feels like a poor mans Death Wish. Racist instead of being racial. Criminals are black or brown while the good guys are white. Asians are Orientals. The whole thing is tasteless.

Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (1996) - 1/5 - Not the least bit funny.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015) - 3/5 - What Part 1 should have been. More action and better pacing yields better results. The love triangle is eye rolling bad in both movies. I guess tween girls love that tripe though. Better but not great.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) - 2/5 - The very boring result of turning one movie into two. Greed overriding quality story telling. Jennifer Lawrence's overacting makes it worse. 2 hours which should have been 30 minutes. Lionsgate sucks.

Green Room (2015) - 3/5 - Blue Ruin is a revenge tale where this is more of a horror movie. There are a couple of logic problems but it's still a great looking, well acted realistic thriller. Quick pacing and a good story make it a keeper.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) - 3/5 - The two fights in the last hour are awesome but there are issues. Eisenberg is a poor mans Heath Ledger. The dialogue is atrocious. Superhero motivations for battle are weak. There is no humor at all.

Anomalisa (2015) - 4/5 - An incredibly accurate and human portrayal of desperate loneliness, awkward intimacy and mid-life crisis. The complexities of interpersonal relationships and personal failings has never been better conveyed in film.

Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) - 4/5 - After the sequel I didn't have high hopes. Luckily it's excellent. Mind blowing visuals reinforce great direction and action sequences. The focus on family and knowing yourself also give it heart which is great for all ages

Zootopia (2016) - 3/5 - It starts out great but the story quickly falls back to a standard police mystery. Animation, voice acting and graphics are excellent as always. A great animated movie but not as original or unique as Inside Out.

Hardcore Henry (2015) - 3/5 - You'll either love it or hate it. I think it's awesome. Amazing direction and camera work. Perfectly integrated special effects. A unique story and exceptional performance by Sharlto Copley make for a one-of-a-kind movie.

SPL: Kill Zone (2005) - 2/5 - Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung and two excellent final fights still don't make it as good as the sequel. A weak story and low production values hamper the effort. It's too simple to be engaging and even at 1:30 it feels too long.

Donal Trump is a fucking piece of shit.

The Finest Hours (2016) - 3/5 - An excellent and moving true life tale of duty and courage. The exceptional special effects never override the dramatic performances due to great directing and acting. I was riveted for two hours and enjoyed it immensely.

Hail, Caesar! (2016) - 2/5 - As a comedy it's not funny. As a satire it's not scathing. As a drama it's boring. It really is just a thing that exists. It's not bad but it's lackluster and forgettable. So many stars with so little on screen charisma.

Kill Zone 2 (2015) - 3/5 - A multi-layered crime drama with some excellent fight sequences. Tony Jaa with the right story and director can be amazing. Excellent performances and directing make for a great movie. It is a little too long though.

Goosebumps (2015) - 3/5 - Thoroughly enjoyable. Great everything; directing, acting, story, dialogue, special effects, comedy, pacing. I was really surprised how good it all was. Even if you know nothing about the books it's still a ton of fun to watch.

The Mermaid (2016) - 2/5 - Stephen Chow movies can be great; this isn't one. Awful special effects, a cliched story and a hit-you-over-the-head moral message make it a miss. The actors though are very charismatic. An unoriginal and uninteresting movie.

The Invitation (2015) - 2/5 - Another annoying dinner party movie. The twist is telegraphed throughout and the last shot is absolutely ridiculous. Characters don't react realistically. That said, the directing is great and Logan Marshall-Green is amazing.

Midnight Special (2016) - 2/5 - A well made and acted albeit completely unoriginal movie. It's basically Starman, Cocoon, ET etc with a kid. Slow pacing and a serious tone make it slightly boring. The ending is also just OK as payoffs go.

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) - 3/5 - A great suspense thriller with top notch directing and performances. Then there's the last 10 minutes. I understand the frying pan to fire logic but the tone change is drastic. It feels like too much but still fun though.

Zoolander 2 (2016) - NR - Essentially unwatchable. I gave it exactly 30 minutes and I never laughed once. I should have know it would suck just from the [Justin Bieber] opening. It's a shame because the first [Zoolander] is one of my favorite comedies.

Pee-wee's Big Holiday (2016) - 2/5 - It might be great as Pee-Wee movies go but it just wasn't quirky and crazy enough. It seems like it was simplified and sanitized. It's not bad it just doesn't have any memorable moments. Joe Manganiello is great though.

The Witch (2015) - 3/5 - Well, it's not a horror story. It is, however, an excellent character study of a religious colonial family placed under extreme stress. The acting, dialogue and directing make it a good movie with a great revelatory ending.

Deadpool (2016) - 3/5 - It actually IS a love story. Seriously. It's nice to see Ryan Reynolds get a franchise after the Green Lantern flop. Great action scenes with witty dialogue and quick pacing. Kids shouldn't see it but for adults it's pretty awesome.

Man I love the Internet. I was prescribed a nasal spray and I kind of new how to use it but a Youtube video was perfect for questions about the priming and why not to inhale during application. Knowledge is power.

Captain America: Civil War (2016) - 5/5 - The best Marvel super hero movie to date. The airport Avenger vs. Avenger battle is absolutely amazing and hilarious. But it's the more subtle and emotional story that really stands out. An exceptional movie.

Karl Urban as "Dredd" on Netflix would be awesome. I loved the movie and have no idea why it didn't do better financially. Netflix is crushing Marvel shows so here's hoping.

Inna's Mantra for Diablo 3 is INSANE! With The Crudest Boots and Unity the damage is crazy. I literally just walk around with a trail of death and destruction and periodically hit a button or key.

The 5th Wave (2016) - 2/5 - The fast food of YA dystopian movies. Watchable but unhealthy and unsatisfying. If the movie follows the book then man alive it's a really bad book. Cheesy dialogue, sappy emotions with an eye rolling romance. Well made but bad.

Frozen (2013) - 4/5 - It's a wonderful story about sisters and family and love. Olaf is freaking hilarious. The CG snow effects are absolutely amazing. And while there are too many songs for my liking many are still excellent. An all around great movie.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015) - 5/5 - A 100% remake of A New Hope. Jakku is Tatooine. Rey is Luke. BB-8 is R2-D2. Starkiller Base is Death Star. That said, it is still an excellent big budget action movie with humor and heart.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) - 2/5 - The acting and direction are good but the story is so very very boring. It's not funny like Austin Powers or exciting like James Bond. The pacing is slow and there isn't much action. It's as dull as a spy movie gets.

In the Heart of the Sea (2015) - 3/5 - Ron Howard is a great director but awful green screen CG, distracting 'GoPro' style camera shots and poor pacing undermine his talents. It's not bad but if you missed it you wouldn't be kicking yourself over it.

Creed (2015) - 3/5 - An excellent modern telling of the Rocky story. Focusing on relationships, passion, legacy and a mythos. Boxing, smartly is secondary, and the audience is treated to a wonderful retelling of a classic.

The Wages of Fear (1953) - 3/5 - A very good character study with interesting obstacles while trying to accomplish a job fraught with danger. At 2:28 the director's cut is too long which lessens the overall impact from minimizing the tension. Good movie.

Metropolis (1927) - 3/5 - The first half is very long and very boring but the second half is great. Lots of action with great, for the time, special effects. An interesting story about technology and workers rights which is timeless. A classic in cinema.

House of Wax (1953) - 3/5 - A classic horror movie which is carried almost exclusively by Vincent Price. The story is simple but for the 50's it is actually very entertaining. The opening fire scene is also great. Avoid the remake; stick with the original.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015) - 3/5 - Better action and story than Ghost Protocol. A similar look and feel to Jack Reacher which is a great thing. Every character is interesting and fun to watch. The lead actress also kicks much ass.

Planet of the Apes (1968) - 3/5 - I'm not sure the 8.0 IMDB rating and 2 Oscar nods is warranted, but it is very entertaining, philosophical and has iconic scenes and dialogue. Pacing issues and limited scope slightly dilute a very good movie.

Coherence (2013) - 3/5 - Dinner parties in movies are pretentious and boring. However, the story picks up in the second act with a great third act. The hook is clever with a nice sudden ending. Triangle and Primer both have better directing and stories.

Ant-Man (2015) - 3/5 - What should have been a cheesy flop of a third tier marvel hero turned out great. Touching moments, laugh out loud humor, great action sequences and a compelling story to boot. First Iron Man came out of nowhere and now Ant-Man.

Inside Out (2015) - 5/5 - The absolute best animated feature I've ever seen. Perfect.

Lilies of the Field (1963) - 3/5 - A simple family friendly movie with good performances. Not Oscar worthy performances however. Sidney Poitier is an excellent actor who should have won for In the Heat of the Night. Still a nice watch though.

Krampus (2015) - 3/5 - An evil Santa Claus exacts punishment during the Holidays. Based on German or Austrian folk lore, it's interesting and well made. The pacing is a little slow but the evil toys and the twist ending make up for any issues.

Steve Jobs (2015) - 4/5 - Amazing writing brought to life by equally great performances. The most surprising aspect is the heartfelt emotional moments between Jobs and those closest to him. A captivating look at a larger than life individual.

The Big Short (2015) - 4/5 - Incredibly smart and creative people can turn the most boring subject into a blockbuster movie. By the end you will have learned exactly what caused the global financial crisis and be extremely pissed as a result.

The Ice Pirates (1984) - 3/5 - By all measures it's not a very good movie but I enjoyed it as a kid and still like it today. Anjelica Huston and Ron Perlman are still early in their careers. It's dumb simple fun with good pacing and interesting characters.

And then a few games later I pull off a 32 damage (53 total) Anyfin Can Happen without Old Murk-eye. Apparently not a big deal if Murk-eye is not allowed in the new [Hearthstone] Standard play format.

This is why Blizzard is nerfing the druid combo in [Hearthstone]. An eight mana 40 damage combo is crazy.

Fireworks (1997) - 2/5 - Very slow and very boring. I understand the juxtaposition of the touching moments with his wife and bursts of violence but it's just way too slow. There's also little to no dialogue so there's no real character development. Pass.

Last Action Hero (1993) - 3/5 - I remember it sucking bad but after seeing it again it doesn't. The trio who made Predator do a great job but it has seriously cringe worthy dialogue. If not for that it might even be a great movie. And a magic ticket ;-(

Police Academy (1984) - 3/5 - A classic 80s comedy that is just as enjoyable today. All of the characters are fun and interesting with good pacing and comedic gags. The leads have chemistry and while the story is simple it's still nice to watch.

Spotlight (2015) - 4/5 - Amazing telling of how the Boston Globe broke the Catholic Church child sex abuse story. Great direction and performances make for an intriguing two hours. The scope of the cover up is both fascinating and horrific.

A lot of people are complaining about Standard play coming to Hearthstone but I for one am very happy. I'm sick and tired of seeing Sludge Belcher, Dr. Boom, Antique Healbot, Piloted Shredder and Loatheb every game.

The Good Dinosaur (2015) - 2/5 - The Pitch: "It's the wild west but with dinosaurs." The Exec: "Make it happen!" Not at all up to Pixar standards. It's a simple story with one note characters but absolutely gorgeous environments. Boring and tedious.

Terrorism. The modern day "Won't somebody please think of the children".

The Superbowl 50 commercials all sucked.

Wing Commander (1999) - 2/5 - It sucks but you know what, I still kind of enjoyed it. The dialogue, special effects and Freddie Prinze Jr. are the big problems but everything else is pretty decent. Known good actors prop up a decent story. Not unwatchable.

The Killer (1989) - 3/5 - Who knew cops and gangsters were so emotionally complex. The action and drama intertwine nicely. Relationships built on trust and questions about loyalty and honor provide impact. A good movie with an awesome ending.

Odd Thomas (2013) - 3/5 - I enjoyed the story and character interactions with the snappy dialogue. The bodach creature cg is great even if the other cg is OK to bad. It's a fun quick movie with a lot of creative camera shots and great lead actors.

Strange Invaders (1983) - 3/5 - Saw this when I was a kid and I remember it being really good. Decades later, my initial opinion holds true. Good direction, story, acting and characters make for a quick and fun watch. It doesn't end like you will expect.

Legend (2015) - 3/5 - Tom Hardy does an amazing job playing gangster twins. The direction is also very good. The story however, for any audience outside of England, isn't all that interesting. The Frances story line gives it depth and makes it better.

Spectre (2015) - 3/5 - The godawful Sam Smith credits song notwithstanding, Spectre is a good albeit safe Bond installment. Car chase - check, manly fight scene - check, seducing women - check. There is just nothing special about any of it unfortunately.

The Martian (2015) - 4/5 - Yet another great space movie; Interstellar and Gravity being the others. Everything about this is spot on. Acting, direction, casting, dialogue, visual effects and pacing are all great. It's also a very smart movie. Superb.

Behind Enemy Lines (2001) - 3/5 - An average action movie with average dialogue and performances. The action scenes are actually really well shot; especially the opening SAMs. It's a fun movie that doesn't require thinking which is probably for the best.

Kung Fu Hustle (2004) - 3/5 - Highly rated but it has some problems. I liked it but the effects are average, story too simple and dialogue fairly basic. There are a number of martial arts comedies I would watch again first and that's the problem. Just OK.

The God of Cookery (1996) - 3/5 - The plot is simple; a top celebrity chef gets displaced by a usurper. Said chef makes a comeback with an awesome dish to recapture his crown. It's the comedy that makes it fun due to Stephen Chow's performance.

Jackie Brown (1997) - 4/5 - Re-watched and great as ever. Samuel L. should have won an Oscar for his performance. The dialogue, as usual for Tarantino, is exceptional. Even at 2h 34m it is never boring. Being based on a novel means the story is great too.

Sicario (2015) - 4/5 - Intense! Everything about this movie is realistic. Dialogue, scenarios, weapons usage and drama seem highly detailed and authentic. The direction is a highlight making every violent frame beautiful. Awesome action drama.

If Bernie Sanders ever had a chance of getting my vote he just lost it with this DMCA abuse crap. Way to go Bernie; you just lost all the good will you spent months building.

Hulk (2003) - 3/5 - Ang Lee is a great director and the main actors do a great job. Hulk is a smart persons comic book movie and it has more drama than normal. As a result, it's slow which many will think is boring. It's one of the better Marvel movies.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) - 4/5 - A great maritime movie. It's a little too long with some pacing issues. Otherwise it has great performances, story, direction, visuals, characters and general quality. Definitely a must see.

Black Mass (2015) - 3/5 - Amazing performances and a great look and feel for the time period keep the viewer interested. It's based on a true story but the story is only moderately interesting. It's not Goodfellas but it's still really good.

The Last Witch Hunter (2015) - 3/5 - Great visual effects and a good story are offset by a really slow second act and telegraphed twist. All said, I enjoyed it a lot. Diesel is always fun to watch and the supporting characters are good. A fun movie.

Into the Badlands: Season 1 - 2/5 - Great martial arts and action sequences can't save bad acting, uninteresting characters, weak story and soap opera melodrama. It could have been so much more. I could only make it through three of the six episodes.

Ash Vs. Evil Dead: Season 1 - 3/5 - Basically it's Evil Dead 3. Maintaining the humor, action, one liners and copious amounts of gore of the original movie and sequel. Bruce Campbell is awesome as always and the supporting cast is good. A fun watch.

The Kid (1921) - 3/5 - Much more entertaining than expected. The child is cute as a button and Chaplin is as animated and interesting as ever. Good pacing and an effective story make it a pleasure to watch. No dialogue means better visuals and sight gags.

Darkman (1990) - 3/5 - Sam Raimi's equivalent to Batman, which is even scored by Danny Elfman, is actually pretty good. It's short and sweet with some great action scenes. Not a bad movie but missing that something special for longevity.

Invincible Shaolin (1978) - 2/5 - Two thirds of the movie is training scenes and the plot is paper thin but the final group fight is great. Throw in a possible wedding that makes no sense and it just isn't worth watching more than once.

Beasts of No Nation (2015) - 3/5 - A beautifully shot well acted movie that is extremely depressing. It's almost too realistic. A story about child soldiers in a war torn country can make the viewer question humanity. Tough to watch but worth it.

Five Deadly Venoms (1978) - 4/5 - Classic Kung Fu cinema from the Shaw Brothers. While it could have had more martial arts action for my tastes the story is great all the same. Quick pacing and an engaging plot keep yourr attention the whole time.

The Hateful Eight (2015) - 3/5 - I thought it would be better. It's unnecessarily long with way too much dialogue. Nigger is used SOOOO much it's actually distracting. The acting and twist is good. Jennifer Jason Leigh is great and should get an Oscar.

The Revenant (2015) - 4/5 - One of the most realistic movies I've seen since The Road. It's a basic revenge movie but it's incredibly intense. While the CG animals are obvious, everything else is visually stunning. DiCaprio will probably get the Oscar.

Rocky II (1979) - 3/5 - Picking up directly where the first one ends, the plot is logical and the character actions are believable. The hospital section is too long and the ending is just a copy of the first, but it's still a great sequel.

Rocky (1976) - 4/5 - An excellent drama which happens to have boxing in it. The fact that Stallone wrote the screenplay is amazing. Very nuanced writing and realistic characters and dialogue. The boxing is actually secondary to the overall story.

Conan the Barbarian (1982) - 4/5 - One of the best fantasy action movies you will ever see. Arnold in his prime opposite James Earl Jones with magic and witches and fighting. The story is also very good in concept and execution. A favorite before LotR.

Rambo III (1988) - 3/5 - Part 3 is more of the same for Rambo and that's a very good thing. The action is even bigger. There's a long stealth sequence and a cat and mouse cave fight. Richard Crenna has a bigger role which is nice. All in all lots of fun.

Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) - 4/5 - The start of the big blockbuster sequels conceit for Hollywood. Story, action, direction and acting are all great for what it is. Quick pacing also makes for a fun ride. It really is a fun action movie.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) - 2/5 - A black comedy that only has a few laughs. Many other John Hughes are much better. The first half is hard to watch but the car scene with a Devil John Candy is freaking hilarious. Still, I won't watch it twice.

Serpico (1973) - 3/5 - Movies based on true stories are hit or miss. Serpico is interesting and well made but the entire story is about a cop battling against systemic police corruption. That's it. It just isn't very compelling when all is said and done.

Rosemary's Baby (1968) - 2/5 - Sometimes reverence clouds judgement. It's an OK movie. It's not scary at all and many twists are telegraphed. A long run time and slow pacing make it a chore to watch. The acting is great however as is the direction.

Bad Boys (1995) - 2/5 - I had forgotten how bad this movie is. It tries way too hard to be cool. Lots of bitching between the leads with no charm or chemistry. Over the top camera shots and bad editing distract the viewer. Stick with Lethal Weapon.

Everest (2015) - 3/5 - Incredibly realistic and visceral. If climbing Mount Everest is anything like this movie; holy shit! Great acting and direction. Some of the effects don't work though. Amazing story which makes it all the more sad at the end.

Them! (1954) - 1/5 - The complete opposite of Godzilla; Weak story, bad acting, condescension towards women, poor pacing, horrible effects, the list goes on. The patronizing slapped on ending about nuclear war is the icing on the cake. It sucked bad.

Godzilla (1954) - 4/5 - The original is the best. A great story with emotion and deep characters. The excellent direction offsets the limited special effects. I was expecting a cheesy creature feature and got a great movie on the dangers of nuclear war.

Modern Times (1936) - 3/5 - Visually stunning scenes and great direction make an entertaining film. Paulette Goddard is incredibly hot and Charlie Chaplin is captivating as always. But really the 'story' is just a series of vignettes and not much else.

Nosferatu (1922) - 3/5 - A horror classic with incredible visual effects for the time. The 2nd act is too slow; it's literally a lengthy boat trip. The long shadow, rising out of the coffin and Nosferatu himself are all outstanding and memorable.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) - 2/5 - Better action and visuals are offset by worse cliches and zombies. Seriously. Zombies. The author couldn't come up with something better. Weak twists and a confusing plot make it only for series fans.

The Maze Runner (2014) - 3/5 - A cliched plot with generic characters and minimal dialogue. Perfect for the YA dystopian future movie goer. I enjoyed it but it really is just an average movie. The effects are good and the final action scene was great.

The Visit (2015) - 3/5 - A taught suspense thriller by M. Night Shyamalan. When he puts his ego on hold he can make a great movie. The reveal is good and the actors are all convincing. The ending is surprisingly touching and brought a tear to my eye.

Mississippi Grind (2015) - 3/5 - A gambling road trip and character study. The direction and writing are very good but if your not into this type of movie you might be bored. Still, while some character motivations didn't make sense I enjoyed what I saw.

Bone Tomahawk (2015) - 3/5 - A horror western with great directing and acting but a simple rescue by numbers plot. The shocking graphic violence gives it needed heft to separate it from other westerns. But it's way too long and 2h 12m creating slow pacing.

Pan (2015) - 2/5 - An unnecessary Peter Pan origin story. It's not bad per se but everything is weirdly off. A misplaced Nirvana song, bad wire acts, obvious green screens, a cowboy Hook, trampolines, wigs. It's a miss-mash where nothing works well.

Face/Off (1997) - 3/5 - It's too long, has a ridiculous plot and bad dialogue but John Woo is such a great action director that I still like it. The shots are great and the final showdown is phenomenal. Woo, Cage and Travolta made a great action movie.

A Better Tomorrow (1986) - 2/5 - John Woo relies heavily on melodrama in his early movies and this is no exception. Lots of talking with only a few action scenes and even those are tame. Hard Boiled a few years later is more indicative of classic Woo.

The Gift (2015) - 3/5 - Joel Edgerton is a good actor but he may be an even better director. A number of the shots are perfect for a suspense thriller. The story is good as well even with a couple of significant plot holes. All in all a great movie.

Valkyrie (2008) - 3/5 - Singer makes a true war story beautiful and compelling. The acting is very good but having every single major German character played by a British actor is an extreme distraction. A fun re-watch but no staying power.

I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988) - 2/5 - It's just not very funny. I actually only laughed once and that was at Kim Wayans lounge singing performance. Slow pacing, flat jokes and bad performances, except for Kim, make it a pass. Black Dynamite is better.

The Land Before Time (1988) - 4/5 - A wonderful movie for young children. The two to six age group will love the characters, simple story and quick pacing. Everyone else will probably be doing something else. Great for its target audience.

Fantastic Four (2015) - 2/5 - Josh Trank is a very good director and I had no problems with the visuals or shot selection. The story however is boring as hell. Worst end battle ever with bad dialogue and no character chemistry throughout. Meh at best.

Goodnight Mommy (2014) - 3/5 - A well crafted German horror thriller with a surprising twist. The twins performances are great and the directing top notch. It escalates nicely to the end and will stay with you long after viewing it. A great movie.

In Hell (2003) - 3/5 - A surprisingly effective prison drama staring Van Damme. The story is actually better than the action and Lawrence Taylor does a good job as well. It's a little cliched and unoriginal but it works and I enjoyed watching it.

Spartacus (1960) - 2/5 - SO MUCH FILLER! It's too long for no reason. The 'love' story feels like a completely separate movie. There's minimal action. Much like the highly overrated Ben-Hur, I would say only watch it if you love 60s era epics.

I bet you anything that this person is selling reviews on IMDB. Almost everything they rate is 10 out of 10 and a rare few are 1 or 2 out of 10. Weird and suspect to say the least.

The Denver Broncos are my favorite team but they are 6-0 only because of luck and great defense. They really need to step up the offense.

Stretch (2014) - 1/5 - Unwatchable shit. Seriously. I got to the eleven minute mark where David Hasselhoff show up and says mother fucker and I said... that's it for this shit movie.

Big Game (2014) - 2/5 - Being a huge Samuel L. fan I'd like to recommend this but I can't. There's little to no action, the pacing is slow and the dialogue doesn't work. It's a nice Finnish production but Rare Exports is much better.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) - 3/5 - Considered a kung fu classic and deservedly so. It has a sound story and good acting. The fight scenes are well choreographed. It's a little too long but I was never bored. As Shaw Bros. movies go it's a must see.

Dark Places (2015) - 3/5 - Probably a better book than movie. It is very dark indeed which makes it tough to watch at times. The crazy ending doesn't really work; it's too implausible. Still, I liked it. Christina Hendricks is awesome as the mom.

What We Do in the Shadows (2014) - 4/5 - Hilarious New Zealand vampire documentary comedy. Great directing, jokes, pacing and acting by everyone. Even the special effects are well done. If you liked Flight of the Conchords you'll like this.

Southpaw (2015) - 3/5 - A very good boxing drama with a great lead performance. Hopefully Jake Gyllenhaal will win the Oscar that he didn't get for Nightcrawler. The direction is also great and draws the viewer into the story even if it is predictable.

Cooties (2014) - 2/5 - Great direction and a good cast can't compensate for a mediocre script. It needed twice as many jokes and crazier scenes. Child zombies can only do so much. It reminded me of a movie born from an SNL skit. It could have been great.

The Final Girls (2015) - 4/5 - A phenomenal horror comedy. I laughed out loud the entire time. There are a number of great camera shots as well. Even the ending is perfectly done. Very few movies successfully pull off this level of creativity.

Minions (2015) - 1/5 - Not funny, not entertaining; only young children will enjoy it. Listening to Minion speak for an hour and a half alone makes it nigh unwatchable. How it made so much money is absurd. There are much better animated movies out there.

Ted 2 (2015) - 2/5 - Not nearly as funny or clever as the first. Extremely crude humor falls flat most of the time. A completely different story would have been better. Anticlimactic ending is weak. The LotR Gollum jokes are freaking hilarious though.

Terminator Genisys (2015) - 3/5 - An unnecessarily complicated plot and poor pacing undermines a great role for an aging Arnold. References to the first two movies make it fun and familiar but bad casting and writing means limited appeal to die hards only.

Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) - 3/5 - The ending made me cry; WTF! While not as clever or creative as the first two, it's still really good. Leigh Whannell will eventually get his big Hollywood break like James Wan but until then the Insidious movies rock.

Tomorrowland (2015) - 4/5 - Great movie! Story, direction, special effects, acting; everything works. Pro movie reviewers that didn't get it are fucking idiots. Stupid fucks. There is literally nothing bad or wrong about this movie. A true treat to watch.

Day Watch (2006) - 3/5 - Improved production values and visuals make for a better movie than the first but it's too long. The story ties into the first movie which is great but it's still simplistic. Basically it's a frame job on the lead and that's it.

Night Watch (2004) - 3/5 - Good visuals and direction are let down by slow pacing and a simple story. Vampires and a cursed woman are all that's on offer. A very small budget limits the scope and impact necessary to really become a hit with staying power.

A Most Violent Year (2014) - 2/5 - It should be A Most Boring Year. A simple story about a business owner with little to no violence. Slow pacing and an anti-climactic ending make for a tiring watch. Great directing and acting but needed a better story.

Spy (2015) - 4/5 - A hilarious spy comedy. Melissa McCarthy is funny as hell and Rose Byrne is great as a bad ass. I was literally laughing through the entire movie. An amazing comedy that keeps the jokes rolling the whole way. Top notch entertainment.

San Andreas (2015) - 4/5 - Finally, a great natural disaster movie. Perfect casting, great visual effects - minus the opening - good pacing and story. Dwayne Johnson is great as always and almost cried during a heartfelt scene; he'll get there someday.

Turbo Kid (2015) - 2/5 - An uninspired retro 80s throwback which fails to entertain. Laurence Leboeuf does a great job and at least makes it watchable even with slow pacing and a paper thin plot. Kung Fury is infinitely better in both style and substance.

Paper Moon (1973) - 3/5 - The chemistry between real life father and daughter is amazing. Tatum O'Neal, who won an Oscar, really does carry the movie. The story is simplistic but never feels boring. I wouldn't watch it again but I'm glad I saw it once.

Terminator Salvation (2009) - 3/5 - A well done action scifi movie with a good cast and fun action scenes. The story is plausible and there is nothing wrong, bad or annoying about it. That said, it's fun to watch once and then move on with your life.

The Breakfast Club (1985) - 3/5 - While a little cliched in spots, it's still an excellent character study with great writing and performances. It successfully tackles universal themes of growing up and finding friends without being condescending.

In Bruges (2008) - 3/5 - A British buddy gangster movie that hits on all notes. Convincing drama, comedy and romance are present. Everyone has chemistry and the dialogue is the best part. Much better than most movies of this type because of the heart.

Misery (1990) - 3/5 - A very good horror movie with an exceptional Oscar winning performance. The directing, story and pacing are good but the scene lighting seems off. Kathy Bates however is absolutely amazing and carries the movie.

Ronin (1998) - 3/5 - Amazing car chase sequences with a great story with tight pacing. Directing is also top notch benefiting an all star cast. The twist at the end works well even though it's slightly predictable. A great suspense thriller action movie.

Commando (1985) - 3/5 - 80s Arnold movies are awesome. Commando has great one liners, cheesy action and Rae Dawn Chong is hilarious. It should suck but everything clicks just right. A fun movie with great bad guys and staying power for action fans.

The Last King of Scotland (2006) - 4/5 - Watching it to see Forest Whitaker's Oscar winning performance would be enough. But the other actors, story, directing and visuals make it all the better. An excellent movie with a mind blowing lead performance.

Apollo 13 (1995) - 4/5 - 20 years later and it's still an amazing movie. Long but never boring. Excellent performances and directing. Great pacing and based on a true story which makes it all the more incredible. A must see for space fans.

Bullet in the Head (1990) - 2/5 - John Woo made me want to watch it but it's way too long and the extreme melodrama doesn't work well at all with the action. A tighter script with better acting may have fared better but even then it would be a stretch.

The Dead Zone (1983) - 3/5 - A classic suspense thriller starring the awesome Christopher Walken. It's a very good movie with a great lead performance and good story. Each vision builds on the last and the ending makes it all worth while. I liked it a lot.

Home (2015) - 1/5 - Unwatchable. Take 1h 34m of inane Jar Jar Binks dialogue plus the I Can Has Cheezburger? meme plus over produced Rihanna songs and call it a movie. I'd rather watch Frozen a thousand times than this ever again. Pure marketing shit.

Miracle Mile (1988) - 3/5 - I was never bored but it doesn't deserve the cult status it seems to have. A fun 80's movie with escalating craziness as the end of the world draws near. It's a love story that doesn't suck because of its unpredictable plot.

M (1931) - 5/5 - The rating may seem high but considering when it was made, it's amazing. A technical and dramatic achievement on par with today's best. Peter Lorre brings sympathy to a monster and the direction and story are decades ahead of its time.

I'll be damned if I let a company reach into my hardware and start deleting stuff. I legally have lots of Steam games but that kind of corporate over reach is bullshit. That's why I don't own a Kindle or buy any Amazon books.

Dear White People (2014) - 4/5 - While cutting satire and societal critique are nothing new, DWP has very clever and well written dialogue, great direction and interesting characters. Divisive racial topics are handled perfectly with humor and skill.

Dallas Buyers Club (2013) - 4/5 - Oscar winning performances normally stand out and DBC is no different. It's an emotionally moving well paced drama with great direction but Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto are phenomenal. Truly great acting.

Rob Rhinehart is a disingenuous asshole. He shifts all his daily living carbon footprint to others and thinks he's helping save the planet. Uber instead of owning a car; eating out instead of cooking; shipping clothes instead of laundry.

Man with a Movie Camera (1929) - 2/5 - A propaganda film made in the Soviet Union extolling the wonderful aspects of living under communism, while historically significant, isn't exactly entertaining. It's important, but I wouldn't recommend it to others.

The Third Man (1949) - 4/5 - An excellent movie let down by one of the worst soundtracks ever. Great directing, especially the lighting, acting, story and characters with incredibly distracting music playing throughout. Orson Welles steals the movie.

The Stanley Parable - 3/5 - Now this is an actual video game. It's primarily narrative driven, which may not be some peoples cup of tea, but it's incredibly clever and has great dialogue. I only saw 5 of the endings because I got bored, but I recommend it.

Gone Home - 2/5 - Narrative is usually just one aspect of overall game play. It however doesn't make for much interactivity or longevity. While I was compelled to see it through to the end, Gone Home isn't a game; it's a story via an game interface.

Her Story - 2/5 - While the execution is great the concept isn't really a game. Game play consist of one conceit. Search a database for video clips to piece together a narrative. I like it but there just isn't much depth. I applaud its uniqueness though.

Feist - 2/5 - A beautiful but brutally difficult platformer. The ridiculous difficulty only exists to make up for the short length. It can be completed in about three hours if you're really lucky or an Adderall addicted twitchy 12 year old.

Sabotage (1936) - 4/5 - A great early Alfred Hitchcock movie. His visual style is better than most movies made today. It has a good story with a tight script and fast pacing. The leads are enjoyable and dialogue snappy. Highly recommended.

I'm not a big fan of Tina Turner songs in general but the two for Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome are great. We Don't Need Another Hero and One of the Living are her best songs by far.

The Beyond (1981) - 2/5 - A hot lead actress, Catriona MacColl, and good directing by Lucio Fulci unfortunately can't save a movie with slow pacing and a paper thin plot. It seems more like a special effects highlight reel to get contract work.

Broken Age - 3/5 - The first half is awesome. It's funny with clever puzzles and great characters. The second half however is tedious with difficult puzzles and lots of backtracking. I went from loving it to being annoyed by it by the time it was over.

It Follows (2014) - 2/5 - Basically it's a PSA about STDs masquerading as a horror movie. There are a few cheap loud noise jump scares which aren't scary. The ending is as if they are an HIV couple; don't infect others with your disease. Seriously weak.

Inherent Vice (2014) - 2/5 - It's a 70's hippie version of classic film noir detective movies. Unfortunately it's hard to follow, has too many characters and isn't very interesting. The dialogue is clunky and directing heavy handed. Jackie Brown is better.

Run All Night (2015) - 3/5 - Great acting, action, story and direction. Slow sections are usually bad for action movies but are very necessary here. The father and son dynamic is crucial for character motivation. Liam Neeson is on a serious roll lately.

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) - 4/5 - Another Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar collaboration hit. The spy movie James Bond wishes it was. Great story, action, direction, pacing, everything. An evil Samuel L with a lisp is like nothing else. Awesome.

Predestination (2014) - 3/5 - A beautifully shot time travel movie based on a Heinlein short story. The first half is a slow burn setup with a great payoff as all the threads are pulled together. It's pretty crazy as time travel stories go.

Fruitvale Station (2013) - 3/5 - A well acted well directed movie based on a true story. The problem is that as true stories go there isn't much to this one. The majority of the story is getting to know the lead. This provides more impact but that's it.

Project A 2 (1987) - 3/5 - Much better than the first. The story is more coherent and interesting. There is a long comedic sequence in the middle which works well. The action scenes, especially at the end, are well choreographed and top notch.

I Saw the Devil (2010) - 3/5 - It feels very much like Se7en for South Korea. The stories aren't the same but I get a very strong vibe of that movie. The acting, directing and pacing are very good but the ending doesn't deliver like it should.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991) - 4/5 - An excellent story and great acting are slightly let down by average directing. There isn't much to it visually but as serial killer suspense thrillers go, it is definitely close to the top.

Red Dragon (2002) - 3/5 - Brett Ratner really is a mediocre director. His shots are unoriginal and poorly executed. Fortunately, the story and actors hold their own and make for an interesting movie with a good surprise ending. Zodiac has real directing.

City Slickers (1991) - 1/5 - A tedious comedy that never made me laugh. Jack Palance, for all the hype, has a limited role and the other characters are cliched and boring. Fish-out-of-water mid life crisis whiners don't exactly make for a compelling movie.

Furious Seven (2015) - 4/5 - The best Fast and Furious so far. Great action scenes with a very good story. I was actually shocked by how much I liked it. The CG Paul Walker works but it was smart for Wan to limit face time. The ending tribute made me cry.

Brother (2000) - 3/5 - A good story with solid character development. Unfortunately it's let down by poor editing and directing decisions. Lingering shots and unnecessary scenes make it much too long. Not bad but it could have been so much better.

Tomboy (1985) - 3/5 - A typical 80's movie made watchable for a couple of reasons. First, there are two, yes TWO, requisite montages. Second, Betsy Russell is unbelievably hot! There's something special about her that is different from most actresses.

Coffy (1973) - 3/5 - I liked it much more than I expected. Pam Grier is sexy as hell even if she does have a horrible Jamaican accent. The chick brawl, constant nudity, good pacing and decent story make for a classic blaxploitation movie.

Agar.io is the modern equivalent of the pet rock. A pointless waste of time.

Chappie (2015) - 2/5 - A boring and expensive two hour long Die Antwoord music video. There are ZERO likeable characters and inane dialogue. An incredibly disappointing third film from a great scifi director. The CG is amazing though; very realistic.

Ex Machina (2015) - 4/5 - A small science fiction movie in the vein of Moon but instead of clones it's artificial intelligence. It has a smart script realized by great direction and performances. The reveal is subtle but well done. Highly recommended.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) - 4/5 - I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Between Smaug in the beginning and an hour long final mega battle, it was never boring. The awkward love story was unnecessary though.

Toy Story 3 (2010) - 4/5 - A wonderful family friendly movie for everyone. Great direction and animation make it the best Toy Story yet. That said, G rated movies mean I'm not the target market and while I enjoyed it I prefer other animated movies more.

Life of Pi (2012) - 3/5 - Awesome visuals and expert direction by Ang Lee make for a great cinematic experience. But it's just another lost at sea movie. Also, I didn't get the ending. So an amazing story means God exists? Still, the CG is mind blowing.

Skyfall (2012) - 2/5 - Too long and too slow. After an amazing opening sequence it gets really tedious. There's a bullshit stereotypical new Q which is a skinny white male computer nerd with glasses. I have no idea why it has such a high rating.

Jupiter Ascending (2015) - 2/5 - Not unwatchable but not very good either. The leads have no chemistry so the romance fails. Space roller blades and space dinosaurs are ridiculous. Eddie Redmayne's whisper voice is annoying. It's all sizzle and no steak.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011) - 3/5 - I really like The Incredibles by Brad Bird but this movie is just average. It's too long with not enough action. MI3 is much better in terms of story as well. It's not bad, it's just not that memorable.

Fantastic Voyage (1966) - 3/5 - When it came out it must have been mind blowing due to the special effects. It still holds up really well after all these years. Lots of creativity with good pacing and direction. A little heavy on the philosophy though.

If there is ever a space ship which resembles a giant penis or dildo it's Blue Origin's recently launched New Shepard. Seriously, it must be part of the marketing plan or something.

Project A (1983) - 3/5 - A fun Jackie Chan action comedy with a number of would done fight and action scenes. I still like Supercop and Who Am I? more but I'm glad I watched it.

Event Horizon (1997) - 3/5 - A horror movie set IN SPACE! The directing, story and sets are really good but it's still fairly pedestrian. Nothing special to give it longevity but a nice watch nonetheless. More info on the chaos dimension would have helped.

The House of the Devil (2009) - 2/5 - While I love the homage to 70's horror movies, which is perfect btw, the very slow burn doesn't have the necessary payoff at the end. It's all sizzle and no steak. A better screenplay would have made it a classic.

Ichi the Killer (2001) - 2/5 - The opening is very cool but from there it's just way too long and loses a lot of steam. The extreme graphic violence doesn't work and is just off putting. Oldboy has a much better story, directing and visuals.

Interstellar (2014) - 5/5 - One of the best movies I've ever seen. It's 2001: A Space Odyssey for this generation. The action, intelligence and emotion are all perfectly balanced. It seems too long at 2h 49m but I could have watched it for another 3 hours.

Major Lazer (TV Show) - 4/5 - WTF did I just watch? If you like Diplo and Chronic then this is the show for you. I'm not big on the narcotics but I love the music and the crazy ass concept. AWESOME!

The Drop (2014) - 3/5 - A fairly straight forward crime drama. Tom Hardy is a great actor and consistently becomes the characters he portrays. Not a bad movie but not particularly unique either. A better Hardy movie is Bronson.

Foxcatcher (2014) - 3/5 - Amazing performances and direction by all involved. Unfortunately, there just isn't much to the story. It doesn't have the substance of a Fargo true life tale. The acting alone does make it worth watching though.

The Guest (2014) - 3/5 - Great movie. Much better than You're Next which has no common sense. Dan Stevens is amazing and has a charismatic menace about him. The unexpected story pivot half way through is cool. I freaking love the last line of dialogue.

Penguins of Madagascar (2014) - 2/5 - Not all animated features hit home runs and this is definitely second string but that said, I mildly enjoyed it. It needed more jokes, more action and better pacing but it should be a good movie for all kids.

Taken 3 (2014) - 3/5 - Not as good as 1 but substantially better than 2. Liam Neeson's franchise lives up to the expectations of fans and is a decently made action movie. Forest Whitaker adds a lot to the movie and the overall story works well.

Nightcrawler (2014) - 4/5 - Performances that are not based on biographies have a difficult time winning an Oscar. Jake Gyllenhaal should have won. His performance, the dialogue and the story are phenomenal. An exceptional movie because of its lead actor.

If the public is provided a quality product at a reasonable price with minimal or no delay then piracy could be eliminated over night.

Big Hero 6 (2014) - 4/5 - Amazing movie. A must see. 'Nuff said.

Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) - 3/5 - While it has the worst casting I've ever seen in a blockbuster, I still liked it. I was never bored even at 150 minutes run time. The special effects are highly realistic and amazing. It's a very well made epic movie.

In the Heat of the Night (1967) - 4/5 - A great murder mystery with the requisite numerous red herrings. However, it really does have award winning performances. Some scenes between the leads are amazing. Truly a great picture on many levels.

Princess Mononoke (1997) - 2/5 - It's too long, too slow and kind of boring. It's also moderately depressing. Man is destroying nature with a mild up note at the end. I love Spirited Away but this is average at best. It just has too many problems.

Rango (2011) - 4/5 - An amazing movie. A-list directors bring camera shots to animated movies the way no one else can. Funny with great characters and a good story. Seriously though, the visuals are mind blowing from a directing perspective.

The Castle of Cagliostro (1979) - 3/5 - Decent for the time with nice animation. It unfortunately has simple characters and a basic story. It's not nearly as good and Spirited Away or more modern animated films. Watch it once, enjoy and move along.

Tony Tinderholt - What an asshole. He's been married five times yet he has the balls to file a complaint against a judge for allowing a same sex marriage.

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly - 2/5 - Experimental art house rap with a smooth jazz easy listening flavor. I have no idea why Kendrick Lamar is so popular. It's not unlistenable like Tyga but it's not particularly good either. Very meh.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (2014) - 3/5 - Not as good as Kyoto Inferno because the first hour is slow as hell. The second hour has more action but overall it's an anti-climactic conclusion to the trilogy. I'm still glad I watched all three though.

Hearthstone is starting to go to shit. Blizzard wants players to use social media to promote Hearthstone for its one year anniversary but they don't provide anything in return. No free pack, no one time quest, no free arena play.

As much as I like Hearthstone, tying a card back to paying for what is essentially free, via gold, content is a joke. This isn't like Blizzcon or Warlords of Draenor card backs. This is the type of money grubbing crap I would expect from EA.

And this is why I don't smoke, will never smoke and avoid smokers at all costs. If smokers want to slowly commit suicide, knock yourselves out, but I won't ever know you.

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) - 1/5 - As with most Terry Gilliam efforts, this is unwatchable. It's boring with bad pacing, weirdness just to be weird and unimpressive special effects. For Gilliam fans only since everyone else will be like WTF.

Devil in a Blue Dress (1995) - 3/5 - While I had a difficult time keeping track of all the characters, their names are just too nondescript, it's still a great movie with a well done plot. Don Cheadle is an amazing surprise and steals every scene he's in.

Panic Room (2002) - 3/5 - A good suspense thriller with great performances. The plot is tight with many believable scenarios. However, there are too many fancy camera shots that actually detract from the movie. A good movie that could have been great.

Arachnophobia (1990) - 3/5 - A good movie that tried to have a bigger scope than it actually achieved. A little more layered and complex than would normally be expected which was nice. It could be so much better if remade today with computer graphics.

Don't Look Now (1973) - 1/5 - I'm tired of watching movies that suck getting really high ratings on IMDB. A nonsensical story that's too long and a ridiculous ending make for two hours of my life I'll never get back. What a joke.

Affluent well educated parents who think they are smarter than doctors and scientists will reap what they sow when their willful ignorance and neglect results in their children dying of easily preventable diseases.

The Lion King (1994) - 5/5 - An perfect animated classic in every sense of the word. There is literally nothing wrong with this movie. Great music, characters, action and story means it will still be lauded decades from now. A very rare movie indeed.

The Last Seduction (1994) - 1/5 - Reprehensible characters, ridiculous scenarios and a horrible ending make this movie close to unwatchable. Really, he didn't see her dialing 911. And the secret reveal is inane for Peter Berg's character. Waste of time.

Sword of Doom (1966) - 4/5 - A beautifully shot samurai movie that is more sophisticated than most movies from today. Complex characters, violent action and great cinematography remind me of Sin City. Some of the shots are on par with Citizen Kane.

I was going to read this article on Bloomberg.com but the recent redesign has made that impossible. I hope Joshua Topolsky crashes and burns at his new job for implementing such a horrible look for the web site.

The Monster Squad (1987) - 3/5 - Another classic 80's family friendly movie. Good pacing, directing, dialogue and special effects with a number of memorable lines. A fun movie in the same vein of The Goonies and Explorers.

Oculus (2013) - 3/5 - This is a great horror movie. It transcends most in the genre because it's more than cheap scares and gore. Oculus messes with your mind and perception on par with Memento and Inception. An expertly crafted movie.

Dracula Untold (2014) - 2/5 - While I appreciate alternate versions of well known stories not all are successful. This is a very basic against the odds story with slow pacing, bad directing and boring action scenes. Not much reason to see it at all.

The Purge: Anarchy (2014) - 2/5 - Outstanding directing and costume design. The look and feel of the city and characters are great but it ultimately is a one trick pony. As a story and experience it's just an average dystopian / alternate future.

The Interview (2014) - 3/5 - Unprecedented coverage came with incredibly high expectations. While not groundbreaking, it is a very good comedy. I laughed out loud throughout and genuinely enjoyed the story and jokes. Rogen and Franco are perfect together.

Gone Girl (2014) - 4/5 - An amazing story either in book or movie form. I can think of only one other movie daring enough to go against mainstream expectations.

I literally just refreshed the Bloomberg and Businessweek web sties and saw the new redesign. Man alive it is HIDEOUS. Garish colors, bad layout and animations make it basically unusable. C-Ya!

The Babadook (2014) - 3/5 - It's not the horror movie you think it will be. All aspects are very well done but the two lead performances are amazing. Emotional trauma either destroys you or makes you stronger but the result is hard fought and uncertain.

The Signal (2014) - 3/5 - No spoilers but it was done before and better. The other movie will jump out at you. The direction is amazing and the story is very good once you know the reveal. I was never bored and the ending tied everything together nicely.

Maleficent (2014) - 3/5 - An alternate and successful interpretation of Snow White. It's also a very emotional ride with great visuals and convincing performances. It has a fairly dark tone though. I though it would be good just not this good.

Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann (1982) - 2/5 - Not unwatchable but not very good either. I like Fred Ward which is why I watched this but it comes off like a double length TV episode.

Out of the Furnace (2013) - 2/5 - 15 minutes could and should have been cut. It's not an action movie but a pure drama. The performances are great but scenes are out of focus more often than not. The main plot is also fairly unoriginal. It's OK I guess.

Lucy (2014) - 3/5 - Not at all what I expected and slightly difficult to describe. It's kinetic, philosophical, emotional and amazing. There are problems, but as a movie there is nothing quite like it. Some love it and some hate it but I liked it a lot.

John Wick (2014) - 3/5 - A very well done and exciting action movie. Keanu Reeves reminds you of the bad ass he was in The Matrix. The story is really basic and the bad guys aren't the least bit scary but the action scenes are fast and extremely realistic.

The Boxtrolls (2014) - 3/5 - A wonderful and fun animated feature for kids and adults. Great voice acting and dialogue with a fairly routine story. The stop motion is absolutely amazing and it continually impressed me. A must watch if you have kids.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (2014) - 3/5 - A good period action movie. The fight scenes are well choreographed and characters fun to watch. It's too long though and could have benefited from some trimming. Be sure to watch the first movie beforehand.

Salem Rogers Model of the Year 1998 - 1/5 - A poorly written pale imitation of Californication. Leslie Bibb is a female version of Hank Moody without the charm or charisma. Weak by any standard, even compared with network TV.

A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) - 3/5 - The annual Liam Neeson action movie is good as always. If you like Liam, you'll like this. It has a decent story with good performances. It's a little slow but just sit back and enjoy all things Liam.

The Equalizer (2014) - 4/5 - Another great Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington team up. A slower beginning lets viewers really get to know everyone. There is literally nothing I dislike about this movie. Denzel is still a bad ass.

River's Edge (1986) - 2/5 - I have no idea why this movie has a 7.1 on IMDB. It's slow with mediocre performances and average directing. I get it... apathetic youth, blah blah blah. A very boring movie with much better options available.

Fury (2014) - 4/5 - A brutal realistic war movie. Amazing performances by all actors with beautiful directing and memorable dialogue. It's tough to watch though due to the realistic violence but it's necessary for the impact. David Ayer has come along way.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) - 3/5 - Much better than it has any right to be. The downhill snow scene is amazing. ILM did a great job on the graphics. The action, story, directing, voice acting and pacing are all good. Truly shocking it's not bad.

Hercules (2014) - 2/5 - Talk about a boring action movie. Brett Ratner can't direct for shit. Unconvincing battle scenes and slow pacing make it difficult to watch. Stream the TV Hercules starring Kevin Sorbo instead, it's better. Dwayne Johnson rocks!

Carrie (1976) - 4/5 - One of Brian De Palma's best films. The third act at the gym is one of the best scenes in any horror movie to date. The acting and pacing is well done with a slow build up to an exciting finale. Don't see the remake; it's pointless.

Cold in July (2014) - 3/5 - A very well made movie with good acting and an interesting story. Unfortunately the pacing is very slow which makes watching it a chore. A much better movie is Blue Ruin which maintains a better pace. Not a bad movie though.

Snowpiercer (2013) - 4/5 - A dystopian future that doesn't young adult novel suck. An international cast and crew create a beautiful and horrific vision of global catastrophe and desperate human survival. Tilda Swinton is particularly amazing.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - 4/5 - James Gunn is known for his sense of humor and GotG has it in spades. The dialogue is snappy, the action fast and all of the characters are fun and interesting. A great summer sci-fi blockbuster to watch repeatedly.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) - 4/5 - The opening elk hunt not withstanding, the CG effects are amazing. Great story, characters, pacing, visuals and directing. Incredibly believable with social introspection. I can't wait for the next to arrive.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) - 5/5 - An amazing and wonderful movie with great performances and heart. While slightly too saccharine for today's audiences, it's perfect as a national treasure of great Americana. Everyone should watch it.

I really dislike TNF inhibitors like Humira. While important drugs (I would use one if necessary) they aren't cures. Dumbing down the immune system isn't nearly as good as an actual cure which won't create lifetime dependencies and revenue streams.

I would like tattoos if they didn't (for the most part) suck and people weren't doing it to hop on the bandwagon. There are very few actually cool tattoos. Andy Shou is one of the best tattoo artists I've ever seen and his work is amazing.

Sex has been used in advertising for FOREVER with men and women. Remember Marky Mark and his Calvin's. There's nothing wrong with pin ups or nostalgic Marylin Monroe poses.

Rick Ross: Hood Billionaire - 1/5 - What a shit album. The only track which is half decent is Movin' Bass but even it sucks because that hack Jay-Z does the refrain. It's crap like this that regular people hate about rap music.

Flash Point (2007) - 2/5 - With the exception of the final awesome fight scene, it's not a very good movie. A simple story, unconvincing acting, weak dramatic scenes and questionable directing make for a tough movie to watch. Luckily the ending kicks ass.

Fido (2006) - 3/5 - Lassie + Leave it to Beaver + Night of the Living Dead. It shouldn't work and initially it doesn't but it grows on you and by the end it becomes a really good movie. The sets, costumes, acting, directing and story are all fun to watch.

Night of the Creeps (1986) - 4/5 - A surprisingly great movie from the mid 80's. Fred Dekker, who also directs the classic The Monster Squad, has a sharp eye and the directing is great. Good pacing, story, acting and effects makes it better than most.
